Blues Sign Scott Nichol

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Tuesday the club has signed forward Scott Nichol to a one-year, one-way contract.

“Scott is an experienced, honest player and an excellent face off guy,” said Armstrong. “He will provide a positive veteran presence to compliment our current group.”

Nichol, 36, spent this past season with the San Jose Sharks dressing in 56 games and tallying seven points (four goals, three assists) to go along with 50 penalty minutes.

The 5’9”, 180-pound forward is a veteran of 11 National Hockey League (NHL) seasons including stints with Buffalo, Calgary, Chicago, Nashville and San Jose where he has spent the past two years accumulating 30 games of playoff experience.

In 552 career regular season games, Nichol has recorded 118 points (52 goals, 66 assists) as well as 808 penalty minutes.

The Edmonton, Alberta native was originally drafted by Buffalo in the 11th round, 272nd overall, of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.

He may be old, but he still is crazy and a decent player. I dig it.

Scott Nichol likes to throw sucker punches at Sabres players. He's a degenerate, and I wish the Blues didn't sign this bum.

Glad to see the Blues adding some toughness after letting Janssen walk.

Hahahahaah I’m glad your first impression of me is thinking that I’m soft. Good, I like It when people underestimate me. I guess I could respond with a tough guy keyboard warrior response, but instead I’ll pick on your Boy Scott Nichol.

Nichol’s fight card is amazing. Pound for pound he has to be one of the toughest In the history of the game. His stats for San Jose were unbelievable including an extraordinary playoff run(two pints in 40 games, and a minus 9) in the two seasons he played there. Career totals of 552 GP, 118 points, a minus 14, an amazing total of 808 penalty minutes, and a whopping 50 + fights.

Don’t be upset because you bought a Nichol jersey and I called him out for being a degenerate scum. It will be ok man, He’s a ST. Louis Blue now but you can still hug your Nichol 8 by 10 photo and put on your San Jose Sharks Pajamas at night.

Good to see Scotty catch on.

Should have figured it'd be the Blues signing him. Team is loaded with tough, physical, scrappy guys, and only natural Scott Nichol heads there.

The Blues will be interesting and fun to watch this year.

This signing adds a few more fights for the blues next year.

Huh?

They let the hometown boy in Janssen go, and replace him with an older, smaller, not as good a fighter in Scott Nichol, who averages about 8 points a year?

This is an upgrade?

No... Ryan Reaves is viewed as the replacement.

Scott Nichol is the 3rd or 4th line checking centerman that isn't in the lineup to fight or enforce, like Janssen was.
