Blues Sign Left Wing Dean McAmmond
ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Senior Vice President & General Manager Larry Pleau today announced the club has signed unrestricted free agent left wing Dean McAmmond.
"Dean is a player who immediately adds speed and quickness to our roster, and that was a top priority for us," said Pleau. "We also believe that he can contribute goal scoring ability and instill veteran experience to our lineup through the strong success he has enjoyed over his NHL career." McAmmond, 32, brings 12 seasons of NHL experience to the Blues, amassing 327 points (135 goals, 192 assists) and 354 penalty minutes in 645 career games. He made his debut with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1991-92 campaign. McAmmond registered a career-high 51 points (21 goals, 30 assists) in 73 games during the 2001-02 season as a member of the Calgary Flames. During the 2003-04 season, McAmmond played in 64 games with the Flames, recording 30 points (17 goals, 13 assists) along with 18 penalty minutes as Calgary advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals. Last season the left wing skated for the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League and led the team in scoring with 61 points (19 goals, 42 assists) in 79 games. The Grand Cache, Alberta native played five seasons of Junior hockey in the Western Hockey League and led the Swift Current Broncos to the WHL Championship in 1993 by scoring a league-high 16 goals in 17 playoff games. McAmmond also captured a gold medal as a member of Team Canada at the 1993 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Sweden. The 5-11, 195-pound forward was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks with their first choice, 22nd overall, in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Last edited by Thrillhouse; 08-09-2005 at 12:17 PM. |
