ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Monday the club has re-signed forwards Chris Porter, Anthony Peluso and Brett Sonne to one-year, two-way contracts.

Porter, 28, appeared in a career-high 47 games for the Blues this past season recording seven points (four goals, three assists). He also played in two games for the Rivermen, tallying one assist and two penalty minutes.

Overall, the 6’1”, 210-pound forward has played in 98 career National Hockey League (NHL) games, all with the Blues, posting 16 points (eight goals, eight assists) and 27 penalty minutes.

The Toronto, Ontario native was originally drafted by Chicago in the ninth round, 282nd overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by the Blues as a free agent on Aug. 21, 2007.

Peluso, 23, played in 61 games for the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, Peoria Rivermen this past season, posting nine points (four goals, five assists) and a team-leading 159 penalty minutes.

The 6’3”, 235-pound forward and native of North York, Ontario, was originally drafted by the Blues in the sixth round, 160th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Sonne, 23, played in 70 games for the Rivermen this past season, registering 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) along with 40 penalty minutes.

The 6’0”, 195-pound forward and native of Chilliwack, British Columbia, was originally drafted by the Blues in the third round, 85th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Some teams are still looking for toughness, and they can't afford to give a guy like Anthony Peluso a chance to prove himself, makes me ill with the new age NHL.

I am gratful he didn't have to look overseas for work but it is still a shame to see young fighters with so much potential trapt in they're now deminished role.

Doug Armstrong has stated that Peluso is close to making the big show. He has a chance to get a cup of coffee in the NHL at a minimum this year as long as he works hard this summer and has a good preseason. He, Cracknell, and Porter are to be the first call-ups to fill in grinder roles in the case of an injury. If the Blues decide to trade some of their surplus forwards for a left hand shooting D-man it can only get better for the kid. And let me stress he is still kid at only 23. If he keeps at it he will be fine.

Peluso should been in the NHL by now. I doubt he ever will now but glad he is sticking in the AHL. Solid 4th liner and fighter.
