Blues Ink Roman Polak to Five-Year Extension

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced Thursday the club has re-signed defenseman Roman Polak to a five-year contract extension.

“We believe Roman is one of the top defensive defensemen in the league who plays against the opposing teams best players night after night,” said Armstrong. “He’s one of our top penalty killers who is just reaching the prime of his career and we’re happy to have him in the fold for the next five years.”

Polak, 25, played in 55 games this past season, recording 12 points (three goals, nine assists) and 33 penalty minutes.

The 6’1”, 227-pound defenseman has played in 227 career National Hockey League (NHL) games, all with the Blues, posting 49 points (eight goals, 41 assists) along with 143 penalty minutes.

The Ostrava, Czech Republic native was originally drafted by the Blues in the sixth round, 180th overall in the 2004 Entry Draft.

You wouldn't have signed him anyways since he was an RFA and I would take him over just about any d-man on your team.

Great signging by the Blues. 230-pound top-4 d-man that has good wheels and can play solid physical defense. Great to have him locked up.

Yeah, me too. Good signing by the Blues.Glad to see they're keeping the core of the team even though the Blues don't have an owner.
