Blues Deal B.J. Crombeen to Tampa Bay
ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today the club has traded forward B.J. Crombeen and their fifth round pick in the 2014 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for the Lightning’s fourth round pick in both the 2013 and 2014 Entry Drafts.
“I would like to thank BJ and his wife, Janet, for their time here in St. Louis,” said Armstrong. “BJ gave us everything he had on the ice and along with his wife, was very active in our community.” Crombeen, 27, dressed in 40 games for the Blues posting three points (one goal, two assists) and 71 penalty minutes in 2011-12. The 6’2, 210-pound forward has spent the past four seasons in St. Louis recording 49 points (26 goals, 23 assists) and 515 penalty minutes in 265 games. Overall, Crombeen has appeared in 288 NHL games across five seasons between Dallas and St. Louis totaling 56 points (27 goals, 29 assists) and 580 penalty minutes. The Denver, Colorado native was originally claimed off waivers by the Blues on Nov. 18, 2008. Crombeen was drafted by Dallas in the second round, 54th overall, of the 2003 Entry Draft. |

What's St Louis' motive for this? Is he overpaid, redundant on the Blues, or is there no room for him on the roster? Why bother trading an established NHL'er and a fifth for a couple of fourths?

Good to see Tampa toughen up a bit, but they may wanna bring Crombeen some backup.

Thank god Tampa finally found somebody who is at least willing to drop the gloves. Crombeen has fought the likes of Milan Lucic, Zenon Konopka, Adam McQuaid, Derek Dorsett, Jared Boll, JFJ, Ryane Clowe, Zack Stortini, Chris Stewart, Mike Brown, and Ian Laperriere in his career. Not one to back down from a fight. He's a very solid middleweight.
