Blues Acquire Mason From Nashville
ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the team has acquired goaltender Chris Mason from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 4th round draft choice, 111th overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft.
“Acquiring Chris really solidifies our goaltending position which was one of our goals going into this weekend,” said Davidson. “We are looking forward to a big day today at the draft.” Mason, 32, played in a career high 51 games for the Predators last season, collecting a 2.90 goals against average and a .898 save percentage. He posted a career high 24 wins for Nashville during the 2006-07 season leading them to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Red Deer, Alberta native has skated in 135 career NHL games, recording a 58-43-12 record along with a 2.61 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. Good trade by the Blues. I'm happy with this. Hannu Toivonen was simply awful last year, and Chris Mason gives the Blues a pretty legit backup behind Manny. Like bustoff said, the young guys in this organization are just not cutting it, and the only one who is showing some promise is big Ben Bishop who still has to play at least one more year in the AHL to be ready.
So I like this pickup. Mason can be a pretty solid goaltender. And for Nashville, they just needed to get rid of a goalie as they had a bit of a logjam there. Now they can go with a good young duo in net with Ellis and the young kid Pekka Rinne from the AHL. The Blues have been pretty busy these last two days with trades, but I like the moves. We only gave up a 4th-rounder for Mason, so I think that's a very good deal.

Mason's great in a backup role but can handle extra minutes if needed. He and Legace will make for a pretty decent duo for the Blues.

Yeah, he'll be playing in Europe next year.
