Blues Acquire Janssen; Send Salvador to New Jersey

St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has acquired forward Cam Janssen from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for defenseman Bryce Salvador.

“We feel that Cam’s style of play will bring energy and grit to our lineup and being from St. Louis, feel that he will be an instant fan favorite here,” said Davidson. “Our depth at defense enabled us to make this move. We admire and respect Bryce as a player for what he did on and off the ice in St. Louis and thank Bryce and his wife April for their contributions as members of our family.”

Janssen, 23, was born in St. Louis and played for the St. Louis Sting (NAHL) in 2000-01. He was the first St. Louisan to play in the Ontario Hockey League when he played for Windsor in 2000-01. He was New Jersey’s 4th round choice (117th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-0, 210-pound winger played in 47 games during his rookie season (2005-06) in the NHL and followed that up with 48 games played in 2006-07.

Just seen it on TSN. Janssen is from St. Louis, hopefully we'll see a lot more of him.

Not surprising. Blues were in the market for Jackman, but couldn't nab him. And with Cam coming off the IR, there were rumors off him being shipped off.

Gotta think he'll get the playing time considering they gave up a somewhat decent defenceman for him.

This trade means one thing -- DJ King's days are numbered. That and Dan Hinote's ice-time might get slashed.

Would have preferred for Cam to stay in the Eastern Conference. Maybe with Montreal?

Wow, my Devils' Janssen jersey just became a bit more valuable to me.

At least Cam goes home. That'll be huge for him.

Wonder how this fits in with King. Look's like Hinote will be gone. I like this trade but it makes you wonder what else is going to happen.

This sucks. I heard a few weeks ago from an inside source that reports that Brent Sutter really liked Cam in camp earlier this year were false. Never posted it because I wasn't sure of the validity and didn't wanna believe it.

I had a feeling that this was going to happen after they activated him today.

Don't know much about Salvador but he looks like a decent sized defenceman and has a good +/-. Blues fans, any info would be great on him.

Well St. Louis fans are in for a treat. I know John Davidson loves Cam and I'm positive he'll get a lot of minutes in St. Louis. He's one of the most entertaining enforcers I've ever watched.

Not a bad deal for either team - the Blues get tougher up front, and New Jersey always seems to make a trade for a d-man at the deadline for their stretch run.

As soon as I heard Jackman had signed that extension yesterday, I figured Salvador was on the move somewhere. Good for JD to get something back for him before losing him to free agency. And here in the west we'll see more of Janssen.
