Blues Acquire Boyes From Boston

ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the team has traded defenseman Dennis Wideman to the Boston Bruins in exchange for forward Brad Boyes.

Boyes, 24, has played in 62 games for Boston this season, recording 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) along with 25 penalty minutes. The 6-1, 195-pound forward has played in a total of 145 NHL games, amassing 103 points (39 goals, 64 assists) while playing for the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks.

The Mississauga, Ontario native was originally Toronto’s first round pick, 24th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

The B's gave up on Boyes too early. At least Wideman has some upside, though.

Holy sh*t! Awesome trade by John Davidson and the Blues.
Boyes is a good young player, and he has decent size at 6'1'' and a half and at least 200 pounds.

Boyes is having a good year so far. He has a chance at getting 20+ goals and he is already nearing 40 points in 60 games. Not bad. I'll definitely take him for Wideman.

Not to be a homer, but I think the Blues get the "win" in this trade. Wideman is okay, but he is mainly an offensive defenseman. He has a very good shot from the point, but he sucks defensively. If he works on his defensive game though, he has a chance of being very good.

I really like this trade though. This is why I feel confident with John Davidson as our President/GM. He won't make any stupid trades like what Larry Pleau did last year for us. He will only make a deal if it's smart. The Blues will be very good in the future. We have a lot of good young guys on our roster already, and we have a ton of good prospects in college. Plus, we have three first round picks this year in the draft, and a couple 2nd-rounders too, so we can load up on some more prospects for the future.

Are you kidding me? We trade away a potential NHL star for some dude most fans haven't even heard of?

First we dump Mara for Ward and now this? Today sucks

Hey Wes McSnipes, I agree with you in that the Blues got the win in that trade. Boyes has struggled this year, but he was starting to play better. I know you're a Blues fan and know a lot about their players. Do you know if Wideman can play forward perhaps at the wing? Since you said he's not good defensively I thought maybe the Bruins would move him to wing because we have six defenseman already, so maybe Wideman can play forward since he has some offensive skills.

Wow. Don't really understand this if I'm a Bruins fan. Wideman's not terrible, but Boyes is just having a sophomore slump. He was amazing last season, and he's starting to come alive the past few games again. The Blues got a real good young hockey player here.

You know, that would be a good idea by Boston. Over at a few Blues message boards, we always discussed the idea of putting Wideman at wing, and I don't know why the Blues never tried it. He would be good there, because he's really good offensively, trust me. Put him on the point on the PP, because he has a ROCKET for a shot. His defensive game is the only thing that's holding him back from being a good defenseman, so I think he could easily be converted to wing.

this is an absoultutly horrible deal for the bruins. what was charilli thinking? Boyes is a great player in a slump. i wouldnt be surprised to see him score 30 goals next year, and see wideman not even crack the bruins lineup

I will now express my feelings towards the Bruins' organization after today's trades with this animated smiley

I love you Peter Chiarelli
