Blue Jackets Waive Rome, MacKenzie, & MacDonald

The Blue Jackets have placed defensemen Aaron Rome and centers Derek MacKenzie and Craig MacDonald on waivers, The Dispatch has learned.

If the players aren’t claimed by another NHL club by noon Wednesday, they’ll likely be sent to minor-league Syracuse.

The move to waive Rome indicates that Marc Methot has made the club as the No. 8 defenseman.

The Blue Jackets now have 25 players on the active roster, not including two players on injured reserve – goaltender Steve Mason and right winger Raffi Torres.

The Blue Jackets can get down to the roster maximum of 23 by sending wingers Nikita Filatov and Derek Dorsett to Syracuse, but one could make the club if center Manny Malhotra (lower body) can’t play Friday in Dallas.
