Blue Jackets Sign Former Draft Picks Jared Boll, Derek Dorsett

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forwards Jared Boll and Derek Dorsett to three-year entry level contracts, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced today. Both players are currently involved in playoffs series with their respective junior clubs, Boll (pronounced BOWL) with the Plymouth Whalers (Ontario Hockey League) and Dorsett (pronounced dohr-SEHT) with the Medicine Hat Tigers (Western Hockey League).

Boll, 20, was Columbus' fourth pick, 101st overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft. In 2006-07, he tallied 28 goals and 27 assists for 55 points with 198 penalty minutes and a +23 plus/minus rating in 66 games with Plymouth. He led the Whalers and ranked fourth in the OHL in penalty minutes and was fourth on the club in goals. In four playoff games, he has notched 1-1-2 and 14 penalty minutes.

The 6-3, 195-pound native of Crystal Lake, Illinois has registered 47-49-96, 403 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +16 in 131 career OHL games. Prior to joining Plymouth, he played two seasons with Lincoln of the United States Hockey League. He collected 29-32-61 and 470 penalty minutes in 116 USHL games from 2003-05.

Dorsett, 20, was the Blue Jackets' ninth pick, 189th overall, in the 2006 Entry Draft. He collected 19-45-64, 206 penalty minutes and was +17 in 61 regular season games with Medicine Hat in 2006-07 and has added 2-0-2 and four penalty minutes in two playoff games since returning to the lineup after suffering a hand injury. He led the Tigers and was third in the WHL in penalty minutes, while ranking second on the club in assists and points. Medicine Hat's leading scorer was fellow Blue Jacket signee Kris Russell.

A 6-0, 178-pound native of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Dorsett has spent the past three seasons with Medicine Hat, registering 49-79-128, 593 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +42 in 180 career WHL games. In 2005-06, he tallied 25-23-48 and 279 penalty minutes in 68 games, setting career highs in goals and penalty minutes.

They are gonna be a bunch of fiesty bunch down in Syracuse next season
Crunch might consider bringing in a legit heavyweight to back things up, since it looks like they will have quite a few aggitators and middle weights in the team next season.
Perhaps the return of Brandon Sugden?!

Dorsett will definitely be a fan favorite in syracuse, he has a fighting style similar to Josh Gratton.

That's a little misleading. Dorsett is usually involved in entertaining fights but he's far from a Josh Gratton as far as fighting ability goes. I just wanted to clear that up.
