Blue Jackets Make First Roster Moves of Training Camp

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have made their first roster moves since opening training camp on September 14 as the club re-assigned 17 players today, General Manager Scott Howson announced. The current training camp roster consists of 43 players, including injured forwards Alexandre Picard and Zenon Konopka.

The following players were assigned to Syracuse, the club's American Hockey League affiliate: forwards Andrew Murray, Philippe Dupuis, Petr Pohl, Jeff Szwez, Kevin Jarman; defensemen Dan Smith, Trevor Hendrikx, Darcy Campbell, Jon Landry, Kyle Wharton, Jekabs Redlihs, Andrei Plekhanov and goaltender Adam Munro. Forwards Stefan Legein (Niagara/Ontario Hockey League), Matt Marquardt (Moncton/Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) and defenseman Ben Wright (Lethbridge/Western Hockey League) were assigned to their junior clubs. In addition, defenseman Brian Sipotz was returned to the AHL's Chicago Wolves.

No surprises, and no tough guys were sent down either. Good news.

We all know Jody Shelley and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen will make the team, but I'm hoping Columbus' other tough guys like Konopka, S. Brookbank, and Goertzen make the squad as well. Those guys are all very willing, and Konopka and Brookbank will fight the heavyweights.

If they all make the team, Columbus will be VERY tough. It's a good sign that they're still keeping Konopka around, even though he's injured, and they could really use depth at defense so IMO there's a great chance Sheldon Brookbank will make it. Maybe not Goertzen, but 2 out of those 3 would be good enough for me, especially with Shelley and OKT as I mentioned earlier. Blue Jackets fans should be very excited about that, and I think this team will be fun to watch this season.... they will create some fireworks, that's for sure.

Im pretty sure Brookbank is on a one-way deal, and Konopka was already sent down, it was in the first line of the original post

The first line states Konopka remains on the training camp roster despite being injured.

Could you please READ before you make those types of comments?

Nowhere does it say Konopka was sent down. Read this line AGAIN:

It clearly states that he's still on the roster. But I guess you're one of those people who doesn't actually read the article, you just look for a players name and automatically assume that he got cut. Well, that method doesn't really work. Sorry.

Reading will get you a lot farther in life, KD.

I'd say all of the players sent down will be in Syracuse for the entire season.

Jared Boll and Tom Sestito are still up their. Sestito has 2 fights so far this season, including a rookie game.
And I believe Boll has 3 or 4, and he had 2 fights in the rookie game.

I'm sure Steven Goertzen will see some time in Columbus like he does every year. I would really love to see the 4th line consist of Shelley-Konopka-Boll
