Blue Jackets Assign Mike Commodore to Springfield; Recall Grant Clitsome
 

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets recalled defenseman Grant Clitsome from the Springfield Falcons, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, and assigned defenseman Mike Commodore to Springfield, Blue Jackets Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced today.

Clitsome, 25, has registered five goals and 10 assists for 15 points and 22 penalty minutes in 32 games with the Falcons this season. He leads club defensemen in goals, while ranking second in assists (tied) and points. He made his National Hockey League debut with the Blue Jackets in 2009-10 and collected one goal and two assists for three points with six penalty minutes and an even plus/minus rating.

Columbus’ 12th pick, 271st overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft, Clitsome has collected 14-40-54 and 138 penalty minutes in 169 career AHL games with Springfield and Syracuse. The Gloucester, Ontario native played four seasons at Clarkson University (ECAC) from 2004-08. He tallied 16-57-73 and 122 penalty minutes in 150 career games. As a senior in 2007-08, he tallied a career-high 5-17-22 with 28 penalty minutes and was +19 in 39 games to help the club win the ECAC regular season championship. He received Second Team RBK All-American, First Team ECAC All-Star and NCAA East Regional Team honors that year, in addition to being named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team.

Commodore, 31, has recorded 2-4-6 and 44 penalty minutes in 22 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He has notched 23-81-104 and 645 penalty minutes in 454 career NHL games with New Jersey, Calgary, Carolina, Ottawa and Columbus.

That trade demand sure went well.

Oh well. At least I get to watch female sportscasters say Clitsome during highlight packages again.
