Blue Jackets Agree to Terms With Sheldon Brookbank
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with defenseman Sheldon Brookbank, club General Manager Scott Howson announced today.
Brookbank, 26, won the Eddie Shore Award as the American Hockey League’s Outstanding Defenseman and was an AHL First Team All-Star in 2006-07 as he tallied a career-high 15 goals and 38 assists for 53 points with 176 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 78 games with the Milwaukee Admirals. His club’s captain, he led all AHL defensemen in points and was among league leaders with six game-winning goals and 208 shots on goal this past season. A native of Lanigan, Saskatchewan, Brookbank made his NHL debut with the Nashville Predators in 2006-07, notching 0-1-1 and six penalty minutes in three games. He registered his first career NHL point with an assist vs. Pittsburgh on Feb. 6, 2007. The 6-2, 215-pounder has racked up 29-96-125 with 965 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +16 in 260 career AHL games with Grand Rapids, Cincinnati and Milwaukee during his six professional seasons. |

shelley and brookbank on the same team, that sounds awsome
|
Is this a 1 or 2 way contract?
|
Great Deal- Sheldon can play very well and is willing to fight the heavys-
Hopefully he will finally play NHL- Him and Shelley will be a good duo. |
Columbus is gonna love this guy. He's physical, will drop em on occasion and he has a pretty heavy shot too. Nashville f'd up this one...again...
|
Is OKT still on the team to? If so I'll be looking forward to the HAwks-Jaclet rivalry heating up to the good old days of Vandy and Fleury against Shelley:evil:
|
It's not really going to help the Jackets, but he does add a little toughness.
However, this guy isn't a heavyweight, probably just a middle, so Shelley-Brookbank isn't a great combo. |

The Jackets are real close to resigning OKT. And also, where can I find out whether this is a 1 or 2 way contract? |
They're not divulging the numbers on this one.

Actually, he DOES back down from the heavies and is really not that good of a fighter either. He doesn't fight nearly as often now that he has a solid d-game. Coach Noel (new Columbus asst.) brought his captain over over as soon as he got there, that's how much he loved him.
