COLUMBUS, OHIO – The
Columbus Blue Jackets have added defenseman
Mathieu Roy to the roster on emergency recall from the
Syracuse Crunch, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, and placed defenseman
Mike Commodore on injured reserve retroactive to September 19, General Manager Scott Howson announced today.
Roy (pronounced WAH) has spent his five-year professional career in the
Edmonton Oilers organization, tallying two goals and one assist for three points with 57 penalty minutes in 30 career NHL games. He has also registered 16-75-91 and 390 penalty minutes in 241 career American Hockey League games with Toronto, Edmonton, Hamilton and Springfield. In 2008-09, he notched 2-15-17 and 120 penalty minutes in 59 games with Springfield.
Edmonton’s 10th pick, 215th overall, in the 2003 Entry Draft, Roy played four seasons with Val-d’Or of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 1999-03, registering 19-58-77 and 393 penalty minutes in 183 career games. He was signed by the Blue Jackets as a free agent on July 14, 2009.
