Blackhawks Trade Brian Campbell to Panthers
The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired forward Rostislav Olesz from the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman Brian Campbell.
Olesz, 25, was originally selected by Florida with seventh overall pick in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft, and made his NHL debut the following year. He posted six goals and 11 assists in 44 regular-season contests with the Panthers during the 2010-11 campaign, as well as 68 hits, 19 takeaways and 19 blocked shots during the season. Over parts of six NHL seasons he has posted 57 goals, 75 assists and 112 penalty minutes in 349 career regular-season tilts with Florida. A native of Bilovec, Czech Republic, Olesz has logged extensive international experience for his native country at the U-18 World Championships, World Junior Championships, World Championships, and was part of the Czech Republic’s bronze-medal winning club at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino. Campbell, 32, posted 19 goals and 98 assists in 215 regular-season contests with the Blackhawks since signing with the organization as a free agent prior to the 2008-09 campaign, and added four goals and 14 assists in 43 Stanley Cup Playoff tilts. |
Obviously Florida needs to get up to the league minimum salary while maintaining the ability to draft high in the future.

Blackhawks fans are dancing in the street right now.
When in doubt, dump all your crap over to Dale Tallon! |
I guess Dale Tallon felt he owed the Hawks one since he was the one who got them into their salary cap mess in the first place...starting with signing Campbell to that ridiculous contract.

for Olesz, eh?
and brian, you worry about winning TWO series' in a season before you worry about the Hawks getting another cup. ;) |

Toews? :D We were 3-3 against you guys this year btw. |

okay, i'd definitely be suicidal. :D |
Best part of this deal was Tallon saying "This adds respect to the fanchise". Really? You look like a fool for taking a guy for 5 more years at $7 million a season.
Also to note Panthers are $25 million away from the cap floor. They are gonna be active. |

I thought you would hate this move. What happens now is just the opposite of what you want to happen. This clears a hell of a lot of cap room. Sharp stays on the team, we make room for our younger defensemen, by moving him, we don't have to worry about moving more valuable players, and we have room to spend money on key free agents. |
On a Panthers message board, several Blackhawks fans are saying with this trade, Tallon is on his way to ruin Florida. But I understand Chicago needs some cap space.
|
I literally just creamed my pants. Good riddance you mouth breather. Dale Tallon must be related to Campbell or something, that's the only logical explanation.

The UC is going to have a party through to tomorrow morning that only rivals the Stanley Cup victory for this trade. ;)
I take it this means Nick Leddy is on his way up on a permanent basis? |
