Blackhawks Sign Sheldon Brookbank

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with defenseman Sheldon Brookbank on a two-year contract.

Brookbank, 31, recorded career highs in goals (3), assists (11) and points (14) and led the Anaheim Ducks with a +11 plus/minus rating while appearing in 80 regular-season games in 2011-12. The Lanigan, Saskatchewan, native has appeared in 277 career regular-season National Hockey League games, racking up 36 points (4G, 32A) and 400 penalty minutes spanning seven seasons with the Nashville Predators (2006-07), New Jersey Devils (2007-09) and Ducks (2009-12).

Brookbank helped the Ducks reach the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2009 and 2011, collecting 32 penalty minutes in 17 career postseason tilts. He has also tallied 125 points (29G, 96A) and 970 penalty minutes in 361 career American Hockey League games and was awarded the Eddie Shore Award in 2007 as the league’s best defenseman.

I think they take the best enforced team so far.

Bollig, Brookbank, Carcillo, Mayers, sometimes Montador. Pretty stacked lineup.

Nice signing. More grit and toughness to the already tough Hawks. Carcillo, Bollig, Mayers and Brookbank. Not to shabby!

I would have posted sooner, but I had to change my underwear.

I read this post, then re-read it and had an accident in my shorts.

This is a hell of a signing. It really adds a lot to this team and gives us some much needed versatility in filling out a line up. Good addition on D.

Good News.!!

it gives the hawks something that they haven't had in two years besides seabrook on defense...a guy that can clear the net and will hit somebody. the hawks defense is as soft as charmin toilet paper and just got a boost.

fighting aside in this move, its something that the hawks needed desperately.

With injuries, rookies, players over the hill, and no solid 3,4, and 5 D men, the Hawks were is sad shape on defense.

Brookbank plays a solid game, can handle the puck, is tough (hitting, playing the corners and taking the man), and will drop the gloves.

Add him to Oduya and Montador (along with Keith and Seabrook), along with a year of seasoning and the Hawks have a lot better defense than they have had in years.

Good fit for Brookbank and the Hawks. Solid and tough d-man and adds to an already tough lineup.
