Blackhawks Sign Michal Rozsival to One-Year Contract

The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with defenseman Michal Rozsival (ROH-zih-vahl, MEE-khahl) on a one-year contract.

Rozsival, 34, recorded 13 points (G, 12A), 34 penalty minutes and a +8 plus/minus rating in 54 regular-season games with the Phoenix Coyotes in 2011-12. The Vlasim, Czech Republic, native helped Phoenix reach the 2012 Western Conference Final for the first time in franchise history, posting two PIM, 31 hits and 28 blocked shots in 15 games.

Originally selected in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, the blueliner has appeared in 756 career regular-season National Hockey League games, tallying 260 points (64G, 196A), a +58 rating and 589 PIM across 12 seasons with the Penguins (1999-2003), New York Rangers (2005-2011) and Coyotes (2011-2012). He has reached the Stanley Cup Playoffs seven times, notching 14 points (4G, 10A), a +2 rating and 40 PIM in 52 games.

Rozsival has twice represented his country at the World Championship, including a gold medal run at the 2010 World Championship in Cologne where he collected two assists and four PIM in nine games. He has also posted 41 points (11G, 30A) in 79 career American Hockey League regular-season games.

His offensive production completely tanked after he left New York. Know he played the PP while there. I'm kind of indifferent with this move.

Hopefully his leg is better after that brutal slash by Penner, and that gruesome "knee on knee" hit by Brown

The same Hjalmarsson that had a horrendous offer sheet matched, what a year or two ago?

I completely forgot Rosival was playing still. Thought he looked entirely out of place with Tippett's system last year.

Blackhawk fans better be prepared for a guy who has an awesome slap shot, but will use it 5 times a year when on the PP.

Seriously, his shot is very good, but when he was in New York, he hardly used it and just passed it to Jagr.
