Blackhawks Sign Center Robert Lang
General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have signed free agent center Robert Lang to a 2-year contract.
“Robert gives us another offensive weapon at the center position,” said Tallon. “He is a right hand shot who will be able to help us on our power play. He has played with Martin Havlat in international competition and they have a very good chemistry together. He definitely gives us more strength up the middle.” Lang, 36, stands at 6.03 and weighs in at 216 pounds. Last season with the Red Wings, Lang appeared in 81 games scoring 19 goals to go along with 33 assists for 52 points. He also appeared in 19 playoff games for Detroit scoring two goals and eight points. He was originally the 6th round choice of the Los Angeles Kings in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. Aside from the Kings, he has played for Boston, Pittsburgh, Washington and Detroit. He has participated in four Winter Olympic Games for the Czech Republic; 1992, 1998, 2002 and 2006. In his NHL career, Lang has appeared in 799 regular season games scoring 213 goals to go along with 368 assists for 581 points. In playoff competition, Lang has appeared in 87 games scoring 18 goals while adding 27 assists for 45 points. Last edited by Thrillhouse; 07-02-2007 at 08:05 PM. |

Depending on the length and cost of the contract I think it could turn out to be alright. I wasn't a fan of Lang this year but he is definitely a skilled playmaker, maybe playing with Havlat will rejuvenate him into a 60-70 point scorer

Reunited with Jason Williams! The only thing I hate about this is Detroit fans will see Lang 8 times next season!

I'm not sure why they'd sign him for more than 1 year. How much money was it for?
He may rebound, but not by that much would be my guess. I guess they want some more veteran influence for their young guys.

Lang will be a different player as soon as he can play with a fellow czech. Remember how well he played surrounded by czechs in Pittsburgh? Havlat and Lang could turn out to be a nice scoring duo.
