Blackhawks Send Rene Bourque to Calgary

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today the team has acquired a future second round draft pick from the Calgary Flames in exchange for restricted free agent forward Rene Bourque.

The left winger appeared in 62 games with Chicago last season, collecting 24 points off 10 goals and 14 assists. In his three seasons in a Blackhawks sweater, he saw action in 183 games and scored 33 goals with 42 assists.

Bourque also spent the 2004-05 season with the affiliate Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League as well as one appearance in the 2006-07 campaign. He was originally signed by the Blackhawks as a free agent on July 29, 2004.

Decent trade here. Rene has some potential to take off.

Bourque has shown some potential. This could end up being a good pickup for Calgary if he gets the opportunity to play with some of the top forwards in Calgary.

I think Bourque has the potential to be a solid NHLer, but I think the arrival and quick progression of Toews and Kane seriously cut into his ice time. He should be able to fit on to the Flames third line and will show enough hustle to please the twin headed dragon of Keanan and Sutter. This should pretty much round out the Flames roster, if they plan on letting some kids like Prust, Backstom and Boyd make the jump full time.

A second round pick though?
