Blackhawks Recall Brandon Bollig From Rockford

The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled forward Brandon Bollig from the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

Bollig, 25, has registered a career-high six assists and nine points (3G, 6A) in 53 contests with Rockford this year, and ranks seventh in the AHL with a team-high 163 penalty minutes. Originally signed as a free agent following a collegiate career at St. Lawrence University, the St. Charles, Missouri, native has notched eight goals, seven assists and 285 penalty minutes in 111 regular-season tilts over parts of three seasons (2010-12) with the IceHogs.

That's one way to replace John Scott. Great call up.

Good news, hopefully he plays a decent number of games.

I don't really think this is Bowman's philosophy as much as it is pressure from the locker room. I definitely think this team is more comfortable with a heavyweight on the roster. When he was first hired, Bowman made plenty of "we're only looking for skill" type comments that would make you think the Hawks wouldn't dress an enforcer, but since then has signed Scott (who players have said they like having in the lineup) and now recalled Bollig after trading Scott. I really think he's catering to the player's preference on this issue more than his own, which I don't mind at all. Good call up.

It was Kane and Toews that really convinced Bowman to make the Scott signing. You are 100% correct.

This makes sense.
I was hopeful that Bollig would be a fixture on this Hawks roster for quite a while, lets hope he's playing and makes the most of it.

And actually, I expect Bollig to enforce, what John Scott wasn't doing.

Scott enforced, he just didn't go picking fights like the average heavyweight. He stated it was hard for him to get fights because a lot of guys would not accept a challenge or were too afraid to fight.

He's not the typical heavyweight that goes and picks fights. Believe it or not, he has pretty decent hockey sense. Chicago just doesn't use heavyweights effectively. The post-lockout teams have reflected that.

Good to see another St. Louis area guy in the NHL even if it is with the Hawks.

HELL YEAH. Bollig is a fan favorite in Rockford, I hope he quickly becomes a fan favorite in Chicago too.

Good move by the Hawks, no matter where it came from.

The kid's grit and toughness makes the loss of Scott a little easier to take.

Liking this, seen a few fights of Bollig's, the kid is legit.

Also means Rockford might dress old Wade Brookbank now, everyone's a winner.
