Blackhawks Re-Sign Koci

Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have re-signed forward/defenseman David Koci.

Koci, 26, 6’6”, 238 lbs. native of Prague, Czech Republic split time last season between the Norfolk Admirals (AHL) and the Chicago Blackhawks. For the Blackhawks last season, Koci appeared in nine games going scoreless while recording 88 penalty minutes.

In his NHL debut with the Blackhawks at Phoenix he posted 42 penalty minutes. For the Norfolk Admirals, Koci played in 44 games recording one assists and 223 penalty minutes.

Koci was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 5th round (146th overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He spent four seasons (2002-03 to 2005-06) with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Pittsburgh’s AHL affiliate. He appeared in only 13 games in 2005-06 due to injury.

In 2004-05, Koci set new career-highs in assists (8), points (9) and penalty minutes (311) while playing in 68 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

He'll definetly make the team. Remember Chicago is the only team with balls that wanted to remove the instigator.

Koci will quickly become a fan favorite. He instantly became one with the Admirals, and for those who don't know about him already in Chicago are going to find out what he brings to the game very quickly. He really energizes the crowd during and after his fights. He also hits anything that moves.

Very good person to have on a team.

Toughest czech player ever to play in the NHL, I think we can say that already after his 3 games from last season.

Let's hope he's not constantly playing ping-pong between the NHL and the A. He's seems to thrive on being the resident enforcer for the Hawks, and die-hard Chicago fans just found another reason to buy tickets!
