Blackhawks Re-Sign Cam Barker
The Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to terms with defenseman Cam Barker on a three-year contract.
“We have had the privilege of watching Cam grow up in our organization and agree that his contributions are going to help take us to the next level,” Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon said. Barker, 23, ranked third among team defensemen with 34 assists and 40 points, both career-highs, while appearing in a career-best 68 regular-season contests with the Blackhawks in 2008-09. He recorded 24 of his 34 assists on the power-play, the most on the club, and finished with 29 points on the man advantage, the best among team blueliners and second overall on Chicago. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native led Blackhawks defensemen with three goals and ranked third with nine points in 17 contests during his Stanley Cup Playoff debut. Chicago’s first choice, third overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Barker has notched 66 points (13G, 53A) and 161 penalty minutes in 149 regular-season outings with the club since making his debut during the 2005-06 season. |
Intresting...but what if they rule that the in favor of the NHLPA? Wouldnt he be allowed to test the market at least? Id be thrilled to add a Barker or Versteeg to my team.

Great news he's definetly our 3rd best defensman. I would take him over Campbell. He's a good passer plays physical and has the hardest shot on the team minus maybe Buff. He's a little slow footed and gambles a bit to much but glad they resigned him hopefully we can trade Campbell for Kaberle.

Cam Barker was one of the most improved players for us last season.
You'll notice they said a three extension, for $9.25M. He was given a pay raise, but the way his play improved, he was due one, that much is debatable. Versteeg, after the year he had, you can't blame him for taking the course he has. For all the talk of loyalty, it is still a business. I think he wants to stay in Chicago, but will let the NHLPA get involved, or let the threat of their involvement more money for him. Vandy, thankfully we still have time to unload him and the remainder of his $57M, including the money he did not earn last year. |
I was a hater...
Now.. not so much. Last Post season made me a believer. |
Solid defender. Great future ahead!
