Blackhawks Buy Out Barnaby, Brown
Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have bought out the contracts of forwards Matt Barnaby and Curtis Brown.
“Matthew and Curtis are two classy guys who represented the Blackhawks very well,” said Blackhawk General Manager Dale Tallon. “However, we are moving in another direction right now. We certainly appreciate everything they did for us last year.” Barnaby appeared in 82 games for the Blackhawks last season registering 28 points (8-20-28) and 178 penalty minutes while posting a plus/minus rating of -11. Brown appeared in 71 games for the Blackhawks last season registering 15 points (5-10-15) and 38 penalty minutes while posting a plus/minus rating on -9.

Strange move. Matt is a good guy.
The only bad thing was his -11 (which isn't really that bad considering the Blackhawks finished 28th in the league). He showed up for all 82 games¨(only Matt, Lapointe and Mark Bell managed that). And to get 8 goals (1 game-winner) and 20 assists, 178 PIMs and 12 fights (13 including the preseason), and all the fans who come to see him, for $1,330,000. What do they think he's worth then? They want to pay him 500,000? He has been in the league for 13 seasons now. He has more than 300 points combining regular season with the playoffs, along with 2,500+ PIMs. What Barnaby brings is worth 1,3 million. Just to compare Domi gets $1,250,000 Brashear gets $1,748,000 Laraque gets $1,083,000 Lapointe gets $2,400,000 (and he didn't put up better numbers than Matt. Only 3 more points, but with a -30 ! And 106 PIMs. But 6 PPG and 3 GWG was better.) I still remember this interview: http://www.hockeyfights.com/articles/193 Matt was very satisfied with going to Chicago. I remember the pressconference, too. He was looking forward to the challenge. |

Pittsburgh should bring him back. And then call up a few other guys in the system as well.
They lost a few guys during and after 05-06, but could with Barnaby have a tough, tough line-up for 06-07: Barnaby Andre Roy VandenBussche Cairns Odelein Carcillo Koci Bonvie and Bissonnette Lefebvre Stone |

Ted Nolan should call Neil Smith to get him a 4th liner to play alongside Asham.

Matthew Barnaby is the type of player the Boston Bruins need. He's all heart, he fights, he hits, and he can put up some offensive numbers when needed. The Bruins have none of that as of right now.

But if they sign Barnaby they still haven't got a real heavy or maybe even an light Heavy. Even LaCotoure is a better fighter than Barnaby. Barnaby would be look great in a line with an heavy... Like Boogard or even McGrattan. |

you will tell me he lost his first Fight this season against Domi? I will still say that Barnaby won't be that big plus in the fighting point. Barnaby will hold on against his rival or will get beaten down and make the turtle. LaCotoure is a middleweight or light heavy too, not a Fighter , but at least he will try to make the job and stand up for his teammates like he did in Detroit this pre season. |

999 out of 1000 times people will say Barnaby is better that LaCouture. LaCouture's NHL total PIM's equal an astonishing 331, but Barnaby's NHL total PIM's equal a mere 2435. Enough said I WILL take Barnaby over LaCouture any day! |
