Blackhawks Activate Adam Burish From IR; Place Sopel on IR

The Chicago Blackhawks have activated right wing Adam Burish (6-1, 189) from injured reserve and have placed defenseman Brent Sopel (6-1, 211) on the long term injured reserve list.

Burish, 25, has accrued 49 penalty minutes in 19 contests with the Blackhawks this season. The Madison, Wisconsin, native has missed each of Chicago’s last 14 games (Nov. 26 to Dec. 28).

Sopel, 31, has collected two points (G, A) and eight penalty minutes in 23 games with Chicago this season and 22 points (2G, 20A) and 36 penalty minutes in 81 contests with the Blackhawks over the last two years.

Awesome news on both ends. Burish is always good for agitating and starting fights. Hopefully he can get one of the Euro f@gs from Detroilet to go tonight and have some bad blood boil over for the Winter Classic. Sopel I could care less about. He has been a cancer this year. I'm with chilly.

I'm glad to have him back but Craig Adams has played really good especially the last two weeks. Earlier in the year Adams was just a guy who was invisible but lately he's been scoring, winning fights and throwing body checks. I would start Burish tonight hopefully he can pick a fight and be a physical presence and if he plays good than play him in the Winter Classic after that I would go with Adams for a few games and if he plays well keep him over Burish. Still wished the Hawks had a hw.

I dont think wither player makes an impact...but as long as Matt Walker stays in the lineup im ok with this.

This is good news. Not a fan of Sopel at all. Burish is usually interesting to watch. Hopefully the Hawks start the new year with a new winning streak...

I never saw a press release come out but Aaron Johnson is back as well.

Nice to see Burish back. More grit for Chicago.
