Blackhawks Acquire Richmond and Toivonen From St. Louis

The Chicago Blackhawks have acquired goaltender Hannu Toivonen (HA-noo, TOI-voh-nuhn) and defenseman Danny Richmond from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for goaltender Joe Fallon and have assigned both players to the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs.

“Hannu and Danny will add great depth to our Rockford team and will have an immediate impact on their roster,” Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman said. “I am happy with this move because it bolsters what is already a strong IceHogs lineup.”

Toivonen, 25, has notched an 11-11-3 record with a 2.73 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage in 26 games with the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen this season. The Kalvola, Finland, native has appeared in 61 career National Hockey League contests with the Boston Bruins (2005-07) and St. Louis (2007-08) registering an 18-24-10 record with a 3.37 goals against average and an .890 save percentage.

The Bruins’ first choice, 29th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Toivonen spent the 2008-09 season with Ilves Tampere of the SM-liiga (Finland) posting a 19-23-0 record with a 2.68 goals-against average in 52 regular-season games. He last appeared in the NHL during the 2007-08 campaign with the Blues, accruing a 6-10-5 mark in 23 outings.

Overall, Toivonen has racked up 74 wins (74-62-11) in 154 career AHL regular-season tilts with the Providence Bruins (2003-05, 2006-07) and Peoria (2007-08, 2009-10) spanning five years of action. He was originally acquired by St. Louis in exchange for Carl Soderberg on July 23, 2007 before signing with the organization as a free agent on July 9, 2009.

Richmond, 25, has posted 15 assists, 16 points and 135 penalty minutes in 54 contests with the Rivermen this season. The Chicago native was a member of the Blackhawks organization for parts of three seasons (2005-08), which includes collecting two assists and 68 penalty minutes in 39 tilts with the NHL club. He has appeared in 49 career NHL games with the Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes (2005-06), accruing three assists and 75 penalty minutes, which includes appearing in a career-high 22 matchups with Chicago in 2006-07.

Carolina’s second choice, 31st overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Richmond has racked up 127 points (29G, 98A) and 805 penalty minutes in 350 career AHL games spanning six seasons of action.

Fallon, 25, has notched a 15-10-1 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in 29 games this season with Rockford during his second professional campaign. He was originally drafted the Blackhawks with their ninth choice, 167th overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

Well welcome home Danny. He was a treat to watch in London.

Details on this blockbuster per Andy Strickland:

Quote:
The Blues (Peoria) have traded goaltender Hannu Toivonen and D-man Danny Richmond to the Chicago Blackhawks AHL affiliate in Rockford in exchange for goaltender Joe Falon and D-man Boyle. All players will remain in the AHL.

nope, this is strictly for rockford and won't have any effect to the hawks and any other trade(s). the hogs are very young and need a dip**** like richmond who can help the youngsters out.

I always had a soft spot for Richmond. He might suck as a fighter but he is willing. Took on Carcillo while with the Hawks.

I guess the Blues finally gave up on Toivonen.
