Blackhawks Acquire Pletka From Philadelphia

Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have acquired forward Vaclav Pletka from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for forward Eric Meloche.

Pletka, 5’11”, 182 pounds, was drafted by Philadelphia in the seventh round (208th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He played in Europe during the 2005-06 season appearing in 29 games in the Czech Republic and five games in Russia. Pletka skated in 22 games for Trinec Ocelari HC tallying 14 points (nine goals, five assists) and 34 penalty minutes and in seven games for Liberec Bili Tygri HC recording three goals and eight penalty minutes. He also appeared in five playoff games for Liberec. Pletka also played in five games for the Moscow Dynamo in Russia registering two penalty minutes.

Meloche was originally acquired by the Blackhawks from Philadelphia with Patrick Sharp in exchange for Matt Ellison and a third round pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft on Dec. 5, 2005.

In 2005-06, Meloche skated in 57 games in the American Hockey League totaling 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) and 97 penalty minutes. The winger appeared in 10 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms tallying a goal, two assists and 16 penalty minutes. Meloche played 47 games with the Norfolk Admirals recording 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) and 81 penalty minutes. He also skated in four playoff games with Norfolk collecting 11 penalty minutes.

A guy that was drafted in 1999 and has never played a game in the NHL after 7 years can hardly be considered a "prospect".

This sort of turns last years trade with the Blackhawks into:

Sharp, Pletka, and Meloche (on loan for 60 games) for Ellison and 3rd (or was it 2nd) round pick.

Hmmm. Kane now Meloche...trying to rebuild the Calder Cup team from 2 years ago ?

Vaclav Pletka a Czech, not a bad player a scorer, but not a player for the NHL, I think, philly was just trying to get their former player Meloche back...

Oh ****, nevermind I thought it was young Russian guy that played for the Phantoms last year. The one who is a prospect. I can't recall his name, I remember he got jump by Dale Purintin last year though.

Not sure why they want Meloche back though.

I thought Meloche did a decent job on the "shutdown" line with Kane a couple of years ago.

Funny you should mention the Purinton jumping of Ruzicka, I just thought of this the other day and it made me laugh. Ruzicka is pretty nasty with his stick and was totally surprised when Purinton didn't stand for it.
