Avalanche Sign P.A. Parenteau
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward P.A. Parenteau to a four-year contract through the 2015-16 season.
Parenteau, 29, recorded 67 points (18g/49a) and 89 penalty minutes in 80 games with the New York Islanders last season. He finished third on the Islanders in points, while ranking second in both assists and penalty minutes. The right winger was fifth in goals and third in power-play goals (6). Parenteau’s 67 points were a career high. “P.A. is a skilled winger who will instantly improve our offense,” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. “He’s a dynamic player who will help our power play and compliment our young centers.” A native of Hull, Quebec, Parenteau has registered 129 points (41g/88a) and 141 penalty minutes in 188 career NHL games. He scored 20 goals (20g/33a) in his first season with the Islanders in 2010-11, which included a team-high tying nine power-play markers. Selected by Anaheim in the ninth round (264th overall) of the 2001 Entry Draft, Parenteau began his NHL career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2006-07 (five games). He dressed in 22 games for the New York Rangers in 2009-10 before signing as a free agent with the Islanders on July 2, 2010. Last edited by chilly666; 07-01-2012 at 05:19 PM. |

Overpaid by about a million bucks. I think he's a flash in the pan, to be honest, racking up all those numbers while playing with Tavares and Moulson.

I guess I'm in the minority, but with the deals that are getting tossed around I don't think this is that bad considering Gaustad didn't get much less.

Well he made 12 points more than the best Avalanche player last year. So 4 mils is NOT an overpayment.
When he was playing good with Tavares and Moulson, he can play good with Duchene and Landy

Parenteau had a great year for the Islanders, and was pretty solid during his first year with the team as well. But a lot of his offensive production definitely is a product of having played with Tavares and Moulson, and having great chemistry with them, as well as logging tons of first power play minutes (when he wasn't neutralizing man advantages by taking dump penalties of his own).
I had mixed feelings about P.A. during his Islanders tenure, but he was put into a situation where he was able to succeed, and I don't think they'll be able to replace his offense. But I also don't think you'll see near the same level of production now that he's off the Islanders. Even if he ends up riding shotgun with Duchene and Landeskog, I wouldn't count on another 60+ point season from the guy. That was the product of a lot of good fortune. He could prove to be a good pickup for the Avs, but I don't think he's going to earn all that money for the full duration of the contract.
