Avalanche Sign John Mitchell
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward John Mitchell to a two-year contract through the 2013-14 season.
Mitchell, 27, appeared in 63 games for the New York Rangers this past season, tallying 16 points (5g/11a) to go along with a +10 plus/minus rating. He went on to dress in 18 of New York’s 20 playoff contests, posting one assist while winning 53.5% of his faceoffs (38-of-71). “We believe John is a good fit for our team,” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. “He is a center with size who skates well and is solid on faceoffs. We are pleased to have him join our organization.” Selected by Toronto in the fifth round (158th overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft, Mitchell has recorded 71 points (25g/46a) in 222 career games for the Maple Leafs and Rangers. The 6-foot-1, 204-pound center is a native of Oakville, Ontario. Last edited by chilly666; 07-01-2012 at 05:20 PM. |

No matter what happens the rest of the free agent period, I will now consider the offseason a win for the Rangers.

I know a lot of people don't agree with me on this but I don't think just because you play on the 4th line you HAVE to fight. Different players have different roles... Mitchell is a depth guy who can chip in some points and play a solid two-way game.

Yea, some points thats it. A guy like Bordeleau could chip in some points and also play with some toughness. For a 4th line that doesn't play much, that's an upgrade over a player like Mitchell.
