Avalanche Sign Joe Sakic to One-Year Deal
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today the signing of Joe Sakic to a one-year contract.

“I am happy to announce the signing of Joe Sakic to a one-year contract,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President and General Manager Francois Giguere. “Our entire organization is very excited to have Joe back for another season. As the only captain of the Avalanche, his record of achievement speaks for itself. Having him return is great for our franchise and community, but also for the game of hockey.”

“Ultimately it came down to the fact that I still enjoy playing and competing,” said Sakic. “I’m comfortable with my conditioning and my overall health. I’m ready for the start of camp and am looking forward to the upcoming season.”

Just heard this on the radio. Always good news to hear one of the great players of this generation wants to keep playing.

Sakic did this the right way. Set a date to announce his decision and followed through.

I thought Sakic's press conference was tomorrow? Looks like the Avs jumped all over this opportunity.

Haha, guess the Avs couldn't wait to bust out the bubbly on this resiging and alert the world.

Good to see Joe coming back, for what'll be damn near as certain as can be his last campaign.

Nice. Joe Sakic is one of my favorite players and I'm glad to see he's coming back for at least one more season.

Oh well - the dream of seeing Burnaby Joe in a Canucks sweater has finally been put to rest, probably for good this time.

The Avalanche got a whole lot better by bringing Sakic back. They should for sure be fighting for a playoff spot next April with Joe around.
