Avalanche Sign Healey, Hussey and Weiman

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced Friday the signing of free agent forwards Eric Healey and Matt Hussey along with goaltender Tyler Weiman, all to one-year contracts.

“These three players add to our team’s overall depth,” said Avalanche Assistant General Manager Greg Sherman. “Going into our first year with our own American Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland, we have more options available for the organization.”

Weiman, 23, was Colorado’s sixth choice (164th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Last season, he appeared in a career-high 54 games with the club’s American Hockey League affiliate in Albany, finishing sixth in the AHL in wins (27). During the 2004-05 season, he helped lead the Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League to a President’s Cup Championship, leading the league in wins (33), shutouts (8), goals-against average (1.80) and save percentage (.938). For his efforts that season, he was named the CHL’s Most Outstanding Goaltender and Rookie of the Year.

Healey, 32, appeared in 80 games last season with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, leading that club in goals (27), assists (48) and points (75). The 6’0”, 205-pound native of Hull, Mass. finished the 2006-07 season as the 12th leading scorer in the American Hockey League. As a member of the Boston Bruins organization in 2005-06, Healey led the Providence Bruins (AHL) club in points (71) and assists (42) and made an appearance in the 2006 AHL All-Star Game.

Healey played collegiate hockey at R.P.I of the East Coast Athletic Conference (1994-98) where he received ECAC Second-Team All-Star honors in 1997 and First-Team honors in 1998. He was named to the NCAA East Second All-American Team in 1997 and 1998.

Hussey, 28, was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins (254th overall) in the 1998 Entry Draft. He signed with the Detroit Red Wings prior to last season and appeared in 75 games with the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids, Mich. A native of New Haven, Connecticut, the 6’1”, 210-pound center played four seasons at the University of Wisconsin and four seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins organization.

Healey won't see NHL Ice I guess.. But he will put up good numbers in the AHL. He is kind of fat, slow, doesn't check and won't work much in the own zone, but he always stands at the right place of the ice to score goals..
He has a good wrist shot.

I remember watching Tyler play AA hockey in Humboldt SK and he had such a bad temper...He seems like a better overall goalie now, I hope he sees some time between the pipes in Colorado, maybne show Theodore how its supposed to be done!
