so look at it this way then. calgary gave up a decent blueline prospect and a 2nd for a rental player that they will have no chance in hell of keeping cause he wants to go back to colorado or to minny where he grew up and played ncaa hockey. thats why calgary got hosed imo.

Why the hell would the Avs pass Lawrence Nycholat when he was on waivers and then trade for him? That's stupid.
The Flames are the winners on trade day. They look real good on paper and are a contender now!

The Avs PR person's one word reply will simply be...Tank. Thanks Francois for bleeding the farm team dry and not getting any help. In fact, we go one more player down now. I guess you call up the trainer next?! You can have the zamboni guys at the arena, they suck anyway.

Sad to see Leo go for now. At least he'll get to play more hockey this year. Avs get a 2nd rounder and a couple prospects and don't give up anything in the long term. Leo was an UFA so the Avs get a 2nd rounder and a chance to negotiate with Leo after the season which they would have had to do anyway. They did Leo a favor and picked up the chance for another great 2nd rounder. Win for all involved.

Overall I think this trade is ok for both sides. The Avs didn't address any of their internal issues, like organizational depth for the rest of this year at all. The farm team has over half an ECHL team due to injuries and callups and the Avs added nothing at the deadline. Pretty typical.

In the calgary paper Leopold said "he was wondering if Darryl was going to pick him up", "he didnt think they wanted to part with him the first time around" and "he's very happy, he missed calgary alot and its like a home here"
strong chance he WILL resign, for a couple years, at 1.5 mill Burke signs bertuzzi for 4 mill i call it here first and cammilari signs for 6 years in edmonton at 6 mill a pop |
