Avalanche Recall Cody McCormick, Activate Skrastins, Reassign Jillson

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that it has recalled forward Cody McCormick from the Lake Erie Monsters, the team’s American Hockey League affiliate. He will join the club in Calgary for tonight’s game against the Flames (7:30 p.m. MST). In addition, defenseman Karlis Skrastins was activated and will be available to play.

McCormick, 24, began the season with Lake Erie and has tallied six points (2g/4a) and 16 penalty minutes in 13 games played with the Monsters. The 6-3, 215-pound forward was drafted by the Avalanche in the fifth round of the 2001 Entry Draft and has appeared in 95 NHL games with Colorado.

Skrastins is returning after missing 12 games with a shoulder injury suffered in Chicago on October 19.

In a related move, the Avalanche reassigned defenseman Jeff Jillson to Lake Erie (AHL). Jillson, who began the year with Lake Erie, was recalled on October 27 but did not dress for the Avalanche.

McCormick has always been a scrappy lad. Let's hope he can get someone to go a round with him.

i think this is the best move on the avs part. The brought someone up that checks, fights and can chip in on offense. ever since lappy has been gone the avs need the toughness

First, Mike Brown gets called up by Vancouver, now Cody McCormick by Colorado. Is this a sign?

In all reality, however, I'd like to believe something positive is happening here, but I've been burned too often to jump to conclusions.

Jillson is one of those guys with all the ability to be a second line guy but there's just no fight in that dog.

This is a sign of the new nhl, and it sucks! They are only brought up to tease you. Its an illusion now go cry yourself to sleep.

A feasible scenario here for Colorado-

McCormick obviously has the sack to fight top HWs as you all saw in last nights game. He fights and plays well on the 4th line. Plays well enough to put Parker out of a job and on waivers. The odds are 50/50 another team would want him. He's getting $475,000. Average enforcer salary.
