Avalanche Re-Sign Matt Hunwick to Two-Year Contract

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed defenseman Matt Hunwick to a two-year contract through the 2013-14 season.

Hunwick, 27, appeared in 33 games for the Avalanche last season, collecting six points (3g/3a). He dressed in each of the final 21 contests to end the year, tallying five points (3g/2a) with a +1 rating during that stretch.

“Matt provides depth to our defense,” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. “He played an important role for our team late last season and we are excited to have him under contract.”

A native of Warren, Mich., Hunwick has appeared in 248 career NHL games, recording 61 points (16g/45a). Selected by Boston in the seventh round (224th overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft, Hunwick was acquired by Colorado on Nov. 29, 2010.

O.K. then, i'll rephrase... 1.6 Million for Matt Hunwick, a one dimensional (and i'm being generous) defense who can't skate, can't shoot, can't block shots, can't drop the gloves, and is best served as a press box attendant...

Aaahh I get your comment now! No worries mate, I was just complaining about the amount of the contract. I was aware that the 3.2 M was for 2 seasons
