Avalanche Re-Sign David Jones to Four-Year Contract

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward David Jones to a four-year contract through the 2015-16 season.

Jones reached the 20-goal mark for the second straight year in 2011-12, finishing with 20 goals, 17 assists and 37 points in 72 games. He shared the team lead with five game-winning goals, while his 20 goals overall ranked third on the squad. The Guelph, Ontario native tied for fourth on the club in points.

“David has been one of our top offensive players over the past two seasons,” said Avalanche General Manager/Executive Vice President Greg Sherman. “He is a product of our organization who has developed into a proven goal scorer. We are pleased to have him under contract as he enters the prime of his career.”

Jones, 27, scored two overtime goals this past season, giving him five in his career (third-most in franchise history). In fact, all five of his OT winners have come since Jan. 1, 2011, tied with Steven Stamkos for the highest total of any NHL player during that time span. Jones’ three OT markers in 2010-11 established a single-season team record.

Selected by Colorado in the ninth round (288th overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft, Jones became the lowest Avalanche/Nordiques draft choice to ever make it to the NHL when he made his debut in 2007-08. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound right wing has appeared in 239 career games, tallying 67 goals and 50 assists for 117 points. Jones tied for the club lead with 27 goals in 2010-11.

They also resigned Hunwick too. I think its silly that he got $4 million a year, but they really don't have any other option. He would have walked most likely.

If he was asking for that much money, I'd have let him walk. Ridiculously overpaid...dude will now be making as much money as Jordan Staal next season.

this contract along with matt hunwick's is proof that the salary cap should not rise every year no matter how much money is brought into the league...the cap floor is gonna keep rising and there are gonna be more and more overpaid turds making twice as much as they should be.

i could rattle off a list of 200 guys making twice as much as they should be for what they put out on the ice production wise.

Very important signing for us! As for the money, watch this guy closely a few next years

PS: I wonder how much will Duchene and O´Reilly get because they are better players than Jones. I think Duchene will get 6mils and O´Reilly five. And what about Mueller´s contract

I would be pissed as an Av fan but they have 40 million in cap space yet with Duchene, Johnson, and Downie being the only major resigns they need to get done. Toss in a horrible FA class and we are going to be seeing Leino contracts accross the board. If the roster was expanded from 23 to 26 we would possibly see the return of the enforcer. Great off season to be a free agent thats for damn sure.

I'd throw money at Johnson though, he is good and very young yet. Would not be suprised to see him get 6 million plus, along with Duchene.

Johnson plays like ****, Ryan O´Reilly is the key signing along with Peter Mueller. Duchene will get 6mils for sure
