Anson Carter on his way out...

It appears that Anson Carter's days as a Vancouver Canuck might be coming to an end.

The two sides are reportedly about a million dollars apart on a new deal.

"I think they have spent all their money," Carter's agent Pat Brisson told TSN.

Brisson said that he hopes to continue talks with the Canucks in the next day or two but is not holding out hope that the gap will be bridged.

Carter signed a one year, one million dollar deal prior to last season after an injury-plagued 2003-2004 season. He came back healthy and scored 33 goals playing on a line with the Sedin twins.

The Sedins each received sizable raises to 3.575 million dollars each over three years. Carter, who made 2.8 million in 03-04 was hoping for a similar raise, ideally getting back to that number over 3 years.

I'd be surprised if the Canucks didn't re-sign him, but I'd take him on the Flyers anyday. He's a great scorer when lined up with the right playmakers. He would line up well with Richards at center and Kapanen on the wing.

Carter should have been one of the first resigned. The Sedins played well with him and may go back to underpreforming without him.

Burke looks like a genius these days and Noonis looks bad!

Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Any GM that is willing to pay Carter $3.5 million is crazy. Without the Sedin's he'll never put up the same point totals he did last season.

Exactly what I was thinking he is not worth that at all he will probably never find a line that he fits on that good again.

I concur... he's going to be very dependent on the Sedin twins until they move to greener pastures.

On a side note, I know your name is a reference to the team, but I feel compelled to say it anyway: I absolutely hate Kip Winger.

He wants 3 years, $9 million. I wouldn't pay him that but if he wants to take the home discount in the T-Dot...then I'll give you $2 mil.

I was thinking the same thing Thrillhouse. At 3 per year I don't think he is that much of a scoring threat. Especially considering he has hit some awful droughts in his career and has been known for inconsistancy.

At 2 million a season it would be okay provided you can match him up with good linemates.

I thought Carter made those soft twins look good. It was a good combo.

Lets see how the twins do this year without Carter.

He's a pretty good "character" guy and brings more to the table than sniping when his hands desert him, no?

Always seemed like a good guy in Wash who could be more dominant physically if that was in his nature. Good fighter when riled up if i recall correctly.

I reported this yesturday that they were a million a part.

Other news...

The Maple Leafs have exressed an interest in signing unrestricted free agent Anson Carter.
Carter had a solid season last year playing alongside the Sedin twins in Vancouver. However, the Canucks have run out of cap space and cannot fit Carter under the cap. The Toronto native is interested in playing with the Leafs and may take a hometown discount in order to play there. via MOJO
