Anaheim Ships Travis Moen and Kent Huskins to San Jose

ANAHEIM, Calif. - The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired center Nick Bonino, goaltender Timo Pielmeier and a conditional 2009 fourth round draft pick from San Jose in exchange for defenseman Kent Huskins and left wing Travis Moen.

Bonino, 20 (4/20/88), is in his sophomore season at Boston University (BU). He was named the Reebok Hockey East Player of the Month for February, scoring 6-8=14 points with a +9 rating in nine games. He won the Most Valuable Player award at the annual Beanpot Tournament last month, scoring three goals in two games as Boston University won the title. In 33 games this season, he has scored 13-24=37 points with a team-leading +19 rating.

A native of Hartford, CT, Bonino was drafted by San Jose in the sixth round (173rd overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. As a freshman at BU, Bonino led all Hockey East freshmen in goals, scoring 16-13=29 points in 39 games. Before enrolling at BU, he was the 2007 United States Hockey Report Prep Forward of the Year. He captained Avon Old Farms (Avon, CT) to the 2007 New England Division 1 Prep championship, scoring 24-42=66 points in 26 games.

Pielmeier, 19 (7/7/89), has earned a 29-9-0 record with a 2.62 goals-against average (GAA) and .916 save percentage (SV%) in 41 games this season with the second-place Shawinigan-Cataractes of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The 6-0, 175-pound netminder ranks fifth overall in the QMJHL in both GAA and SV%, while also ranking sixth in wins.

Selected by San Jose in the third round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft (83rd overall), Pielmeier began his North American career in the QMJHL with St. John's in 2007-08, leading the league in SV% (.911). The native of Deggendorf, Germany represented his country in the 2005-06 World U-18 Championships and again in 2006-07 at the World Junior Championships.

Huskins, 29 (5/4/79), played in 33 games with Anaheim this season, scoring 2-4=6 points with a +6 rating and 27 penalty minutes (PIM). He has missed the last 26 games with a broken foot. Huskins was drafted by Anaheim in the sixth round (156th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He has played in 142 NHL games (all with Anaheim), scoring 6-22=28 points with a +26 rating and 100 PIM.

Moen, 26 (4/6/82), played in 63 games with Anaheim this year, scoring 4-7=11 points with 77 PIM. He was acquired by Anaheim from Chicago in exchange for Michael Holmqvist on July 30, 2005. He has appeared in 343 NHL games, scoring 26-25=51 points with 473 PIM.

Yeah I just heard this. Moen and Shelley together. San Jose is a sweet team, they got toughness, scoring, and goaltending. You're looking at a strong contender this year!

Odd that they traded Moen to a division rival.

seems like the Ducks are on the fence on whether or not this team can make the playoffs. Giving up Moen is more grit gone, and i doubt they got much on the offensive side from SJ.

Can't believe the Ducks traded these two guys within their own division. If I had a guy like Moen, I'd rather kill myself then see him in Calgary or Edmonton. San Jose must have offered something tasty....
