Anaheim Ducks Recall Eight

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled centers Tim Brent, Ryan Carter and Petteri Wirtanen, right wingers Mike Hoffman and Bobby Ryan, defensemen Brian Salcido and Clay Wilson and goaltender Gerald Coleman from the Portland Pirates, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Brent, 23 (3/10/84), made his NHL debut with the Ducks this season, playing in 15 NHL games and recording 1-0=1 point in that span. He appeared in 48 AHL games for the Portland Pirates this season while amassing 16-14=30 points.

Carter, 23 (8/3/83), a 6-1, 205-pound native of White Bear Lake, Minnesota was acquired as a college free agent on July 12, 2006. In his first AHL season, Carter registered 16-20=36 points in 76 games.

Wirtanen, 20 (5/28/86), drafted in the sixth round by Anaheim (172nd overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, played in 67 games for the Pirates this season while compiling 7-11=18 points.

Hoffman, 26 (9/20/80), appeared in 56 AHL games in 2006-07; 35 with Manchester and 21 with Portland, scoring 10-12=22 points with a +8 rating. He was signed as a free agent by the Ducks on Feb. 23, 2007.

Ryan, 20 (3/17/87), Anaheim’s first round pick (2nd overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, played in 63 games for the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He ranked eighth in the league in scoring and fourth in power play goals (24). Ryan led his team in scoring with 43-59=102 points. Since his recall to Portland this season, Ryan recorded 3-6=9 points in eight games.

Salcido, 22 (4/14/85), a 6-2, 195-pound local from Hermosa Beach, California, was drafted by Anaheim in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. In his first, full season in the AHL, Salcido was second among defensemen in scoring (7-20=27) for Portland.

Wilson, 24 (4/5/83), signed as a free agent on July 11, 2006, played in 79 games with Portland this season and led all Pirates defensemen in scoring with 9-34=43 points. He ranked fourth in assists and seventh in overall points in the AHL among defensemen.

Coleman, 22 (4/3/85), played in 14 games in the AHL this season (11 with Portland and three with Springfield), posting a 6-6-0 record, with a 2.69 GAA and a .907 SV%. He was acquired on Feb. 24, 2007 with a first-round draft pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Shane O’Brien and a third-round draft pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

That doesnt make sense, they have Parros, whats with the Hoffman call up?

It's normal for NHL teams in the playoffs to call up 8-10 of their AHLers to travel with the team after their AHL season is over. Don't expect to see Hoffman in the lineup anytime soon.

The only player on that list that might see a game or two in the playoffs is Tim Brent.

Not sure how he well he has been doing as of recent, but I wouldn't doubt that Ryan would still need some more seasoning so he can develop some more.

no I don't think they would throw him out there in an NHL playoff game. He isn't prepared in a lot of ways.

He is a full AHL season away from helping the Ducks.
