Anaheim Acquires Brad Winchester for a Third Round Pick
ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has acquired left wing Brad Winchester from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Winchester, 29 (3/1/81), is a veteran of 304 career NHL games, scoring 30-26=56 points with 436 penalty minutes (PIM) with Edmonton, Dallas and St. Louis. He has appeared in 57 contests for the Blues this season, scoring 9-5=14 points with 86 PIM. Among Blues leaders, Winchester ranked third in hits (120) and PIM. The 6-5, 230-pound winger appeared in his 300th NHL contest on Feb. 21 vs. Chicago, earning an assist in the game. Signed as a free agent by St. Louis on July 16, 2008, Winchester appeared in 185 contests in a Blues uniform over three seasons, earning 25-18=43 points with 283 PIM. The Madison, WI native had a career year in 2008-09 when he appeared in 64 contests, scoring 13-8=21 points. Winchester has also appeared in 20 career Stanley Cup Playoff contests, including 10 games in 2006 with Edmonton en route to the club’s Stanley Cup Final appearance, scoring 1-2=3 points with four PIM. He scored the game-winning goal in his playoff debut in Game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals on Apr. 23, 2006 at Detroit. Selected by Edmonton in the second round (35th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Winchester made his NHL debut with the Oilers in 2005-06 (Oct. 10, 2005 at Anaheim) and scored his first goal on Nov. 7, 2006 at Montreal in a 3-2 shootout loss. He played four years of college hockey with the University of Wisconsin of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), scoring 35-24=59 points with 228 PIM in 141 career games. A member of the US Development Program from 1997-99, Winchester also appeared for Team USA at the 2000 World Junior Championship, helping the squad to a fourth-place finish. They're really gonna rough a team up in the 1st round. Might not win, but they'll definitely soften their opponents up.

Holy smokes! St. Louis has been really active trading this year (and so has Anaheim).
I guess a good move by both teams. Winchester is a big, physical guy who can play somewhat and he does have some playoff experience. I guess this also helps make sure that Cam Janssen stays in the line-up more often now.

This team is stacked to the gills with physical players. If only other teams could have half the physical/tough players the Ducks do, the league would be worth watching on a nightly basis again.

I definitely feel sorry for a team that has to go 7 games against them.

Looks like I'll be watching more Ducks games than I have been. With this group you just never know when something's going to break out. It's not going to be a fun experiance playing these guys in a series.

Hopefully the Ducks play all this tough players and hopefully they have to rough up Detroit in the first round.
