Why is anyone "shocked" that there is no suspension for this? after all it was a Boston Bruins player that was the offender. We all know what happens to a Bruin when this type of offense happens, absolutely nothing. The next player to execute the same offense however will have the book throw at them.

With accusations flying, I just wanted to highlight this ironic statement. Now getting back on topic........ |

The problem with "repeat offender" being a factor is that, if soemone gets away with something because they were never suspended before, well the next time they do something stupid, they take that into account again (hence not a repeat offender). Not targeting McQuaid here with this statement, just a lot of instances, this is how they work around not suspending certain players. F'n stupid. So if McQuaid does this again, it'll be like he never did it before.

McQuaid is a tough and generally honest player, but this was a reaction play that was potentially really dangerous. I don't want to cave in to the "I hate the Bruins" crowd or feed goofy conspiracy theories, but man.... I think a game or two out might have been in order here. Yes he got a misconduct penalty, but if you're tossing out suspensions on a regular basis, there has to be some consistency. I know Foligno and McQuaid are allegedly former pals and Foligno came back a shift or two later, but that's besides the point. Otherwise you send the inadvertent message that you have to mangle someone to get suspended.

I think this situation brings up the age old question of whether you are going to punish guys based on the act or the outcome. It's sort of like if you try to shoot someone and miss you are charged with the less-serious crime of attempted murder rather than actual murder. To me, this situation is similar. McQuaid knees Foligno, draws a 5 minute major and a game misconduct. Based on Porter/Booth, the precedence says 4 games. However, Foligno returns the next shift after drawing a major; meanwhile, Booth is out a month+. Shanahan must have felt a "slap on the wrist" fine and being kicked out of the game was sufficient.

It of course potentially could have had disastrous consequences on Foligno, but he was not injured on the play. Mcquaid made a desperate move to trip Foligno to slow him up. Stupid play,Mcquaid admitted it. I thought he'd get suspended at least two games. With all the whining about the league wanting to phase out fighting and physical play,i cant believe any of you think the Bruins are getting preferential treatment. They are one of the most guilty teams of the things the league supposedly wants to eliminate;fighting and physical play. The whole Shanabruin and pops Campbell angle is laughable.

McQuaid seems like a decent guy, a tough but clean player. He seems to feel genuinely ****ty about what he did, that might have been a factor for Shanaban.
If McQuaid ever pulls that kind of dangerous bull**** again though I want Carkner and/or Neil to work him over good. |

he seems like a guy that would rather hurt himself than someone else

McQuaid is one of the few Bruins I can actually stand, he seems like an honest hockey player for the most part, this "knee" wasn't really that bad but the lunging elbow in the playoffs definitely had some sinister intent.

...it was bad attempt by McQuaid at trying to stop Foligno from getting past him -- it was a trip, yes,...you can call it a knee, too, if you want -- BUT, THAT'S IT. A DELIBERATE attempt at injury?? - NO WAY.
The NHL along with "hanging-judge" Brendan Shanahan CONTINUE to punish players UNJUSTLY in their shameless effort at "cleaning-up" the league. WHY they think it's necessary to tack-on a fine and suspension for every freakin' penalty is a joke,...it's becoming outrageous! This is NOT hockey, anymore - they are changing the sport completely - and the fans are the ones being SCAMMED,........ |
