2008 Qualifying Offer Deadline Thread

[Thrillhouse]

What are qualifying offers? A team must extend a qualifying offer to a restricted free agent before June 25th in order to protect the player come July 1st.

What happens to unqualified players? The become unrestricted free agents on July 1st

How much is a qualifying offer? It's based on how much the player made last season
Players who made < $660k: 10% raise
Players who made $660k - $1 million: 5% raise
Players who made >= $1 million: Same salary

Over the next few days, news will trickle in about who teams have chosen to qualify. This is usually an important week for tough guys as they often find themselves on the bubble.

Pleasantly surprised that they offered to Ellison. Vigilante and Dover are great guys, but things just aren't working out for them for various reasons. Bochenski sounds like its an odd man out situation.

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said today that the team made qualifying offers to all of its potential restricted free agents before today's 5 p.m. league deadline except minor league goaltender Jordan Parise.

The Thrashers had five players who entered the week as restricted free agents. Four of the five were given QO's. The other will become unrestricted, although that doesn't mean the Thrashers have no interest in him staying in the system.
Qualifying offers went to Kari Lehtonen, Brett Sterling, Nathan Oystrick and Joey Crabb. Guillaume Desbiens is the odd man out.
