NO FIGHTS. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?!?

Usually back in the day, when you tried to embarrass the other team, you paid for it. Talk about pathetic....
This is the new NHL though Hump. I wouldnt be suprised to see the Yotes come back and win 10-9 in a shootout, that would be exciting.

Guys,
This is a great thread, and a great topic!
It's official : We now have a thread dedicated to old school fight fans where we can vent without getting complaints from the newbies. I love it!
I'm glad the moderators made this a "sticky".

I have been an avid hockey fan since 1989. The first hockey game I went to was a Spokane Chiefs pre-season game in September of 1989. That was a great era in the WHL. At the same time I started watching NHL hockey on tv in October of 1989. The NHL was f*cking awesome from 1989-1992! John Kordic, Jay Miller, Dave Brown, Bob Probert, Joey Kocur, Lyndon Byers, Mike Peluso, Marty McSorley, Ken Baumgartner, Tim Hunter, Kelly Chase, Tony Twist, Chris Nilan, and even guys like Mick "I'll bodyslam you because I can't beat you" Vukota made the NHL a great sport to watch and enjoy with pleasure and satisfaction!

Then in 1992 the NHL invents the motherf*cking instigator penalty, and Gary BUTTman becomes our Commissioner. Then the NHL started to slowly but surely go to hell!!!!
The NHL was even better prior to 1989, but I would say everything was fun, fine, and dandy up until the instigator penalty was invented, and Gary BUTTman became Commissioner. I really hate Gary BUTTman for many different reasons, but the main reason is the same reason that you guys hate him : He only cares about money and he doesn't give a sh*t what the old school fans think of what's happened to the sport we used to love.

NHL hockey was really good thru the 1997-1998 season. Then the clutching, hooking, holding, the neutral zone trap, and obstruction really started getting "popular" to do with all teams in the 1998-1999 season. Here's my proof of the slow but sure demise of good, old fashioned, NHL hockey :

What was the only good thing about the 1998-1999 season ??? Scott Parker's rookie season, and Patrick Cote getting into 30 fights. Other than those things, that year sucked!

1999-2000 season ??? The Flyers/Maple Leafs brawl game, Freadrich vs. VandenBussche, and Marty McSorley hitting Huggy Bear over the head with his stick. Other than those things that year sucked!

2000-2001 season ??? Scott Parker, Todd Fedoruk, Reed Low and Stu Grimson. Other than those things that year sucked!

2001-2002 season ??? Stephen Peat, Darcy Hordichuk, Kevin Sawyer and of course P.J. Stock. Other than those things that year sucked!

2002-2003 season ??? Nothing jumps out at me. The whole year was boring with the neutral zone trap. The only highlight I can think of is "The S.O.B. line" of Stock, Oliwa, and Brown. Other than that the year sucked!

2003-2004 season ??? Andrew Peters, Matt Johnson actually fighting well, Oliwa fighting a ton, and that infamous Flyers/Senators brawl game. Other than those things that year sucked.

2004-2005 The strike year. Neither side properly apologized to the fans, and we beared a grudge and we should bear a grudge. I blamed both sides in the strike. The greedy owners and the greedy players. Also a big f*ck you to DirecTV for not televising that much minor league hockey during the NHL strike year.

2005-2006 season ??? Cam Janssen, Brian McGrattan, Colton Orr and Derek Boogaard. Other than those 4 brave warriors this year, the first year, of the "New NHL" sucked worse than any other year of NHL hockey. The games were unbearable to watch and beyond being boring. I fell asleep during most games and I did not get my money's worth. I was thoroughly pissed off and upset. That year blowed!!! The worst year ever of pro hockey played by wimpy, bi-sexual, euro's wearing visors!!!

The "New NHL" is simply a disgrace. It is NOT hockey, it is european cowards wearing hockey equipment. It is NOT the NHL hockey of the 1980's, it is a fake and fraudelent form of sh*t on ice. It's the ice capades. I'm relieved that we can vent here in this thread. We deserve to vent. The "New NHL" sucks donkey balls. No passion, no heart, no hitting, no grit, no soul, no toughness, no nothing, just a bunch of wimpy millionaires skating up and down the ice for 60-65 minutes. This is not the game we used to love, this is not the sport we used to love, this is a cheap imitation of hockey. It's not authentic, it's a counterfeit. DO NOT SUPPORT THE NEW NHL!!! BOYCOTT BUTTMAN ERA HOCKEY!!!
Demand a refund, don't attend games, don't buy merchandise, don't send your money to the "New NHL".

This is the worst product available to throw out at us, and we're supposed to consider these guys the "best of the best" ??? Give me a break!
I would much rather have LNAH games televised on Spike tv than watch a bunch of gutless, cowardly, stick swinging, turtling, wimpy, figure skating, euro scumbags pretending to be hockey players. Gary BUTTman needs to be fired, he cannot be given a 3rd chance, he has ruined the sport we love and we should hate him for that. Do not give your hard earned money to the "New NHL". They don't deserve your money, they deserve our hatred, disgust, and contempt. The "New NHL" is a joke, it's pathetic, it's 3rd rate. NHL hockey was great from 1989-1998 but not anymore, and anyone with a brain can realize that.
Someone needs to start up a petition to boycott the "New NHL" so we can reclaim the sport we used to love and cherish. The "New NHL" sucks, plain and simple.

Hey, thanks Hump. Jokinen is the one that bugs me the most. Think about this; the guy is 10 for 13 in shootouts last season, according to the Hockey News. Not too shabby, but most of those are scored using pretty much the exact same move. So how many goals did he get credit for in regulation? You;d think maybe 30, 35 - at least 20. Nope. He scored 17 goals. Thats it. And 8 of those were scored on the powerplay! This byproduct of the new NHL only scored NINE even strength goals last season, one fewer than his shootout markers. But because he's so good in those damned shootouts, he gets a regular shift and full time job that I would rather see go to a more physical player. I hate those muthafukin' shootouts!

Mikko Koivu, same thing. 4 for 6 on shootouts, but he only got SIX regulation goals last season. Guess why he's got a spot on the Wild's roster? Those damned shootouts, thats why!

Lindros has soup for brains. Exelby would have punched holes in him.

I'm not the worlds greatest Exelby fan..but I was just trying to prove he is a valid match for Brookbank. Exelby KO'd Gordie Dwyer in his first ever NHL Fight. And he's really not all that big, but built like a firehydrant.

I am e-mailing God, and showing him your post, and telling him a bunch of us agree. This is all I can think to do at this point...as we don't have much help.."here".

We need an earthquake or something...or a baby born with 6 heads..to invoke fear of the Almighty..and mayhaps a change in NHL Brass.

Normally takes the G man a few days to respond to my e-mails..so..i'll keep you all posted on his response.

I had so much promising expectations about Yotes for upcoming season, but what in the hell was that??? The team gets totally embarrassed and there is no fights in the game??

yeah everyone was touting them as having the toughest duo.

Hello reality !

Is there any team that actually plays a fighting duo ? lol..

I was over critical of Brookbank now that I think of it. Any other night..it would have been just a no fight night, we'd have one tomorrow. But it's like expectations are super high on fighters, just because it's a lost part of the sport.

We might as well be hoping for a goalie to score a goal on most nights. About the same odds of seeing a fight.

Gonna try and shed some optimisim here..
The Goon was born...and he can be reborn.

It takes one team, to stand up against the Bettyman regime.

One team that does not care about the PIM Package, or has a coach that will sit a player for taking a #@~!#@% minor penalty in a game that is one giant powerplay anyway.
A minor penalty is like hitting a foul ball in baseball.

Hopefully one team is somehow rubbed the wrong way, and they say the hell with the league, the hell with losing, and they goon it up.

Wishful thinking, but I bet people would pay to watch that team, and this BS is a business whether we like it or not.
