Wild Name Nick Schultz Captain for January
SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild President and General Manager Doug Risebrough and Head Coach Jacques Lemaire announced today that defenseman Nick Schultz will serve as team captain for the month of January. Brian Rolston and Kim Johnsson will serve as alternate captains throughout the month.
Schultz, 25 (8/25/82), becomes the second youngest captain in Wild history behind Filip Kuba. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound native of Strasbourg, Sask., is third on the team’s all-time games played list with 406. He has 68 career points (17-51=68) with a +22 career rating. Schultz, who has missed just one game due to injury in six NHL seasons, was Minnesota’s second-round pick (No. 33 overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. Minnesota will continue to rotate its team captaincy on a monthly basis this season based on the player who has shown the greatest leadership qualities. Pavol Demitra (October), Rolston (November) and Mark Parrish (December) have served as Wild captains this season. |
