Why doesn't Westgarth fight anymore?

Is it the shiny new contract? Was it the summer of '11? Was it McGrattan ringing his bell in the pre-season? If he's having second thoughts he should retire or be bought out. 1 fight every 10 games when he's had so many chances in 11-12 and so far is not enough. He turned down Scott and didn't ask Thornton. This has been going on a while to, he hasn't established himself with the Hurricanes and has had 3 fights in 29 games so far since last season. When you've played Parros, not to mention Thornton and Scott multiple times that's pathetic.

I give it until next week before he throws on a visor and call himself a sniper

He wasn't dressed for the Parros game, the game where he could have been used the most. The first game against the Sabres, I don't think he and Scott ever came close to each other. Second game, Scott got to him at nearly the end of the first period of a tie game, which really makes no sense to fight. Against the Bruins, he tried to get somebody to go on his first shift, not sure if it was Thornton or who. He barely touched the ice after that.

He can't seem to even skate well enough to get to a fight. When Scott chases him down, you know your skating is bad.

lol good to defend your own player.

Scott did challenge him in BOTH games. He even said that in media. Westgarth is just a wuss.

It wasn't Thornton that Westgarth challenged. It was Dennis Seidenberg, of all people, that Westgarth was shoving after the whistle in the 1st period. After that, he was basically invisible.

Do you have that interview. Westgarth will throw down when the times are right

Or that Mcgrattan punch was last he will ever take then

Yes they did, I watched that game and the Canes announcer said it was smart of Westgarth to not fight Scott in a nothing-nothing game...

RedWolf 01-31-2013 01:38 PM

It's Ok guys, it's the Hurricanes way, we are still trying to figure out how to use an enforcer (since the last one we had was bowl-of-rice).

Not surprising to see Gleason go but then E. Staal almost has a fighting major (in the home opener) before Westgarth something is definitely off.

That's because the Canes announcers are so used to their club having such a soft lineup that they forgot what a fight can do for a team.
It's a 0-0 game, so why not engage in a HW slugfest to get the boys going, get them playing with intensity, create a few scoring chances.... etc?

What the heck is wrong with a fight during a 0-0 game? LMAO :0)

Waste of salary and roster space in my books, I don't give a crap what anyone says.... he doesn't even have the drive to go out there and be and "energy" guy banging and crashing let alone dropping the gloves ... what a complete let down...

Gleason is a very valuable asset to that team and I'm happy to see that he's the only one who has the ballz.

Has he been diagnosed with Shawn Antoski Syndrome?

Yeah, send the teams back to the locker room all fired up! Real ****ing smart.

FurnaceFace 02-01-2013 07:31 PM

maybe westgarth hates carolina. and hasnt totally embraced his new team. because he hates it... but he needs to fight to establish his role for other teams to look at him in the future.

Gunslinger 02-02-2013 12:00 AM

Because he plays in Carolina. Your welcome.
