Why do fighters always throw their helmet when fight is over?

Always wondered this..maybe im missing something but you always see at the end of a fight if the fighters helmet stayed on he will take it off and roll it on the ice then skate to the box/locker room...why do this? Why not just keep the thing on since one of your teammates is just going to have to retrive it for you anyway.

Like in the end of Prust/Lucic fight from last night why does Prust throw his helmet on the ice before going down the locker room...isnt someone just going to pick it up and bring it to him anyway..why not keep it on?

Haha yeah I watched a local junior game the other night and noticed the one kid do it. Once I saw that I kind of realized how common it is. My guess, just something you do without thinking and to try to look cool as you skate past the crowd, Funny I was thinking about this exact thing yesterday afternoon

There's no right or wrong answer in my opinion. They all do it for different reasons. Adrenaline, recognition, copycats, and some guys probably don't even know that they do it.

Cause a brutha gets hot during a scrap and it feels good to throw something when your pumped.

I'm guessing.

1. It's a respect thing with the teammates. You drop the mitts, stick and bucket and allow your mates to pick up after you - as you likely just stood up for one of them.

2. Not have a bucket smack around on bumps on your head. With some shots landing on the head, or the bucket and creating damage to the scalp, which isn't fun having a bucket scrape against it.

3. Get some air... some times the chin strap will get messed up and get tight on the neck, dump the bucket and not worry about it as you're catching your breath.
