What have I missed?

As some of you may know, I have come to Europe for the next few months to add some spice to my final year of university via an international exchange. As a consequence of this I have been without internet for a few weeks and missed pretty much the entire preseason. I've managed to fanangle access a couple of times a week and I've tried to stay abreast of the goings on in the hockey world, but I still feel I must have missed a lot. I've scanned the forums and read as many threads as I can, but my time is limited and as much as I want to, I can't read them all .

So what I ask of all my hockeyfights.com brethren is for a quick update on what I've missed. What have been the best fights? Any big upsets? Any major heavyweight matchups? Early disappointments? Anything else I should know?

Again, I may already know all this, but for some reason I feel that checking the net a couple of times per week has almost certainly left me in the dark. There has to be something I've missed. So any help here is most appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I did and I read some recaps of the fights, but I only had about 15 minutes to use the internet so my knowledge of it is very limited. But at least I heard about it, if not I'd really feel like a moron not having heard about a brawl! I've got a few more things to do and then I have to hit the hay for the night (+6 hours from EST over here) but I'll be sure to read up on it tomorrow. In the meantime if you or anyone else wants to post a quick breakdown for me it would be appreciated, if not, no worries. I'll check up on it tomorrow.

I'll try posting the big stories. You probably saw that Flyers forward Steve Downie got a 20 game suspension.

Detroit, for the 2nd year in a row, starts the season with an enforcer, Aaron Downey.

Anaheim cut Parros, May, O'Donnell and Beauchemin and replaced them with euros! Detroit cut all their euros and will ice an all goon line-up!

Hey did I hear Steve Downie??

For actual Sens news, Heatley and management aren't seeing eye to eye on a new contract. I think it was $8.5 mil vs $7mil. Looks like McGrattan will be getting more playing time compared to the end of last season.

Oh, and STEVE DOWNIE

The NHL banned all fighting and came up with a "Selective" hitting program. See the Steve Downie thread for details!

Janssen is having surgery and is out til at least Decmeber which is the only thing preventing him from being the heavyweight champ this year.

Jesse Boulerice manhandled Cam Janssen (twice) so hard that he quit playing for a few weeks.

Colton Orr dropped Jesse Boulerice with a strong right.

Chris Simon dropped Colton Orr with a strong left.

Flyers are rolling with both Cote and Boulerice to start the season.

Downey made the Wings roster.

Scott Thornton upset George Parros.

I had heard most of that (all of it I think) but that's exactly the kind of recap I was looking for when I posted this thread. Thanks a ton, RC.

For the others, if you see anything he left out, feel free to enlighten me further. If not, thanks to all.

p.s. jkidd- It's not the first time jayc has come out of the closet. If you're unfortunate enough to have him wander in on you in the executive restrooms, you're sure to find out what team he plays for. We've tried to keep it on the down low in the past, but I don't think anybody will be surprised by the news anyhow.
