Third Jerseys

Anybody know anything about the third jerseys going away next year?

I heard the commentators talking about it during a Caps-Canucks game, saying that next year there will be no more third jerseys, just the home and away.

I wrote to Phil Coffey for his Ice Age column of NHL.com and he published the email but just said he didn't know.

Then I was looking at Thrashers jerseys on the official shop website and now the third jersey is listed as the 'home' jersey and the original home jersey is only available as an un-personalizeable replica.

So what gives? Does anyone know what's up or why? I know Dallas got rid of their third jersey because it was ugly but why would teams want to give up the extra money that they pull in from third jersey sales?

Third jerseys are just a stupid money making scheme designed to milk even more money out of the fans.

They should get rid of them. Concentrate on making the sport itself better instead of just "looking" better.

Sure its about money making but when done right, I think the 3rd jerseys are great. For example, the Rangers 3rd jersey is very classy and doesn't make a mockery of their classic jersey style.

Same with the other original six teams going with vintage logos for third jerseys. I like Vancouver's blue vintage jerseys too. I also like the King's 3rd jersey, even if it is mostly purple. I agree, when it's done right it looks good.

The Thrashers did away with the "bat logo" looking jersey. The old third jersey is our home jersey now- the Blueland one. Road white. I am happy the Thrashers did away it... that was a putrid jersey, looked like a kid designed it.

also about money and sales. the Blueland jersey was a best seller, and the team actually liked it..thus the change.

Yeah, I like how the Original 6 wear vintage jerseys on the nights they play each other.

Some of the third jerseys are great, some of them are hideous. I am thankful that Buffalo decided to wear their vintage jersey for 15 games this season. The logos on the new jerseys are absolutely awful and I will never like them. I can't imagine why the NHL would do away with the third jersey concept. Football and baseball both have third jerseys now, and it seems like a growing trend in professional sports...

never liked the idea 3rd uniforms. driven too much by owners too make money.

someone start a uniform thread. jerseys u want to see come back.

bring back the flyers pumpkin uniforms. tired of the black and their 3rd uni.

never liked washingtons blue uniforms. bring back the red, white, and blue, but keep the logo.

pittsburgs without the bright yellow? ugly and boring.

while we're at it....make colorado wear the nordiques blue uniforms, carolina wear the whalers blue with whale logo, and phoenix has to put on the jets uni's as well.

Yeah, the third jerseys are obviously a money-making scheme, but they do add a little bit to the game, in my opinion. Not much, but it's cool if your team (example: Atlanta) has a good-looking one.

I guess I really have a soft spot for the Atlanta jersey because I went to the game where they wore them the first time. They played Toronto on thanksgiving and Atlanta got their asses kicked, of course.

I really like when they wear the vintage jerseys. I'd like to see more of those, especially w/ teams that have moved. Those teams should wear their jersey from wherever they moved from (Carolina=Hartford, for example) on occasion.

I'd also like to see the Original 6 wear those really old sweaters, like the old-ass knitted kind that they wore back then. If they can fit the pads under them.

yeah, what he said.

theres a picture of some nashville(i think) players practicing with them. they're so tight it makes their arms look like freakin popeye.

the nhl has many problems - but one of them IS NOT the hockey sweater. let it alone.

i guess they'll change it when absoultly NO ONE buys these new jerseys. i know i wont be dropping 150+ on one of these.

heres a picture: http://cmsimg.tennessean.com/apps/pb...xH=390&title=1

apperently the all star jerseys this year will be made of this.
