Stanley Cup or Olympic Gold?

If you were an NHL player and could only win one, what would you rather win? The Stanley Cup or the Olympic gold?

Even though the opportunity for olympic gold only occurs once every 4th year i have to say the Cup.

The Stanley Cup is what most hockey players dream of their whole lives. Olympic gold would be nice of course ... but IMO it's not on the same level. Winning the cup is a long process. A team could ostensibly ride a hot goaltender through the short tournament to the Gold.

Stanley Cup especially for the North American players. I think alot of the Euro players winning a Gold medal might mean more, unless they've been in the NHL for a while. I heard Ovechkin say that winning the Gold medal in Sochi would be bigger then anything else career wise.

The Cup.

Players pursue winning one for their whole career. Easily the best trophy in any sport and the players who win it get their name engraved on the same trophy that dozens of other legends have their names on.

Plus, winning the Cup is way more grueling than winning a Gold Medal. 82 regular season games plus 4 rounds of the playoffs.

As an NHLer...it's the Cup. That is what they play for. But I question which is bigger.

Here's something to think about. If you win the Stanley Cup...you become a hero in the CITY you call home. If you win Olympic gold...you become a hero in the COUNTRY you call home. Off the top of your head.....who won the 1980 and 2002 Stanley Cup? Now...Off the top of your head....who won the 1980 and 2002 Olympic Gold for Hockey?

Makes one think about which is actually bigger.

I think it depends on where you grew up, for a lot of europeans the gold medal is the top, but I bet that for the canadians/americans Lord Stanley is by far the best.

Between the two I would slighlty prefer a gold medal since it occurs only once every four years and you win it for your country.
