And once again nobody in the world gives a ****. It's time both sides start to realize the league is almost irrelevant. That reality needs to sink in a little. It should have a long time ago....

I could see Bettman's head as the apple they hand out to the fans to make them come back. And all the fans will come back and use Bettman being gone as their excuse to not follow through on 'being done with this league' etc.

I read yesterday in DuPont's Boston Globe column that the league plans on offering the Center Ice package for free as a kiss and make up gesture if there's a settlement and abbreviated season. Wow, that's sure to win me back...

It should be free regardless considering the boring ass product shown on the ice on a nightly basis.

My response to that "gesture" whoop-de-****ing-doo.

Try putting a little effort into fixing an already severely broken game rather than handing out free center ice subscriptions. Nobody watches to begin with. Even if it's free I doubt that changes a whole lot.

I actually like this gesture. It'll give me something to watch when Extreme Lawn Cutting and Gas Pump Stars go to commercials.

Please. There are plenty of people in Canada that have lost interest in the league And in the big scheme of things Canada is pretty damn small. The NHL is becoming less relevant by the second.

I've said this many times before in the past. The NHL will always sell in Canada. You can replace hockey with a steaming piece of **** and label it NHL and people will still blindly show up. But at the end of the day the NHL's goal isn't about selling hockey in Canada. It's already sold and that isn't going to change. It's about selling hockey in the U.S. And that has failed rather miserably. It's pretty damn hard to sell a product that continuously gets worse and worse.

Just proves Canadians are stupider than Americans. When American teams dont win a championship in 10 years, we quit dropping money into the franchise... Canada, well they drop insane amount of money on a franchise that hasnt done squat since the 60s-70s. MTL folk are born retarded so I cant diss on them for supporting their franchise since they do have a nice logo. Tards are suckers for a good logo.

Hordi, I usually agree with a lot that you have to say, but this I don't. First, in the big scheme of things, while it may not seem like it, Canada is still a huge part of it.

I don't agree that you can label anything the NHL and people will still show up. The NHL is the NHL. I know a lot of you guys have gotten into minor leagues over the years, but sorry, the NHL is the NHL...the best hockey in the world.

The NHL hasn't failed at all. Has it over taken the MLB or NFL? No. Did anyone expect it to do that? No. It rivals the NBA, with a huge mismatch in youngsters who play/watch.

You are one of the posters who's been hating since the first lockout, and while I mean no disrespect as I know you contribute to this site, but the NHL will survive and the guys you don't see now will be back. The NHL is the best hockey in the world. I can't wait.

Big part of what exactly? The point I'm trying to make here is while hockey is big in Canada it's relatively small in the rest of the world. Especially in the one place where the NHL desperately wants to grow, the U.S. That said I do realize hockey has grown in the U.S. over the past several decades. But it's still an afterthought whereas in Canada it's a lifestyle.

I'm talking about here in Canada. People here will blindly follow the NHL regardless of how awful the product is. Although I do believe the last couple of lockouts have left a lot of fans sour. Especially the most recent one. Of course sadly most of them will welcome back the league with open arms.

Completely subjective, IMO. Most talented players doesn't equal a more entertaining product. In fact I'd argue it has an adverse effect. More mistakes, and more physicality will almost always lead to a more exciting product. That isn't to say the NHL is never ever entertaining because it can be. But with all the rule changes and philosophy changes within the game it doesn't happen nearly enough. Everything is too robotic with systems and schemes. Not to mention the physicality being slowly taken from the sport. All of that leads to a boring product regardless of how much skill there is.

I've been saying it for years but major junior hockey is by far the most entertaining hockey in the world. And nothing comes even close. It's the closest product to what the NHL used to be many many years ago.

It used to rival the NBA. Now it's about 10th on the list behind croquet, ping pong and dog shows. It'll never surpass the NFL or MLB. Everybody knows that. It was the #4 sport in the U.S. at one point in time. It's fallen quite significantly from that position over the years.

I know the NHL will be back. But the product will still be ****. It's only going to get worse. And yes I hate on the NHL. For good reason. The league I grew up loving is a shell of what it used to be. Maybe some of you are fine with that and are able to adapt and adjust. I am not. So I have to get my hockey fix elsewhere. It's just a shame that the NHL going to **** does have a trickle down effect to all the leagues including major junior. I just dread the day when there is no real entertaining hockey league left. I hope that doesn't happen but it seems inevitable.

Just proves that Americans are not real fans of the sport and teams but go to games and watch their sport only to be entertained. A real fan never quits on his team no matter if it's 10 years or 50 years of loosing.
