Shootout, Like or Dislike?

This seems to come up a bit in other threads but, are you guys in favor of the shootout or not? I for one like the shootout. I know its messed with "tradition" and all that but the shootout has made the game more exciting to me. I know theres probably going to be a lot of you disagreeing with me like always but it'd be nice to see a few people in favor of it.

It's kind of unfair like in soccer with PK's but i remember eklund making a good suggestion with having each team have a PP and do it kinda like college football. I like that idea better because it makes it more of a team thing than individual.

I think the shootout sucks. Hockey is a team game, yet they decide it based a one on one exhibition originally designed to add "thrill" to the all-star game. It's a f*ing joke that this decides games.

it's gay. They should have a 5 min 4-4 and then a continous 3-3

I like it. It makes the game a lil' bit more exciting, and can find an other utility to offensive-gifted players who plays on the 3rd of 4rth line.

The continious 3 on 3 would be ****ing exhausting for the players and plays would be a lot different...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Continuous OT is not feasible in the regular season, and it's better than a game ending in a tie.

This is also coming from a player who was 3 for 4 in shootout opportunities this year.

I agree that there's no way to do an endless OT. Play an additional 20 minutes, either 5-5 or 4-4 and if there's no score, it's a F*ing tie, same as it always was.

It adds excitement BUT I don't understand why they decide games of such a team sport with individual efforts ? Obviously the NHL only did it as a cheap attempt to gain fans because they'll never ever use it come playoff time. Its exciting but I could care less if they changed it and went 4 on 4 for 10 minutes.

I don't even find it exciting. Penalty shots, caused by a breakaway are exciting. Contrived shootouts just suck. Other than that, I agree, it was a dumb decision, and they need to go to a TEAM OT, whatever lenght and number of players and let it be decided, or a tie, as it works out.

Flyers and I forget the other team had an OT where penalties had it 3 on 3 for about a minute or so and it was comical. It was like the players had no idea what to do and were dumping it in and just sending in one guy to forecheck while keeping two back until the minors were up.

It is exciting, but I don't like the fact that after 65 hard fought minutes the game comes down to a skills competition.

I used to enjoy the shootouts. Now, I'm quite sick of them. Don't get me wrong, I've got to watch some great shoot out specialists (cough Petteri Nummelin cough) and some great shoot out goalies, but they don't have the same excitement they once had. I'm not saying anytime something gets dull it needs to be replaced, but the individualism that a shoot out brings to a "team paramount" game is quite sickening.

I'd say go to 4-4 for 10 minutes, and end it in a tie if there is no scoring.

Give the guys a chance to get something going past 5 minutes, and give the coaches a harder time to simply play for a tie with a short 5 minute overtime.

Dont like the shootout for one reason .. The winning goal .. it dosent even show up in the player's stats that scored it .. that is the only thing that bugs me about this one on one play ..
