The officiating and league review of these incidents is beyond comical. I am not one for conspiracy theories, but you really have to wonder how some of these things are called and reviewed after the fact. Nash, after the player has already shot the puck, leave his skates, jumps and delivers a forearm shiver or elbow to the back of the head/neck area of an opposing player. No penalty or disciplinary action. Even the Rags announcers were hesitant to say how bad it was, although you can hear by their tone that it was a bad blatant hit.

Nash gets the "superstar treatment."

Enough said.

I think superstar treatment applies when there is a borderline or questionable hit. In those cases, you probably give the superstar the benefit of the doubt. In this case, you could make the argument that there is no legitimite hockey play being made and that it is a deliberate attempt to injure. To me, that is where superstar treatment has to end.

Gutless play... leaping in the air, hitting a guy from behind, right to the head.. of course a guy like this will not face a hearing.

Absolute BS!

What is even more sad is that the Florida players had zero response... zero!

Lupul gets 2, and Nash gets nothing. Complete trash this league is.

Wow, really questionable consistency from the NHL on that one. I don't want to be one of the many who just jumps in a says "star player treatment" but I don't really know how else to describe it...that's an in person hearing if Orr/Carcillo/Torres/Rinaldo did it.

Explanation from Shanahan

Quote:
“We don’t like this hit. It absolutely should have been a two [minute minor], and probably should have been a five,” said Shanahan, in a phone interview on Friday.

The no-suspension ruling from the NHL on the Nash hit was that it was an awkward, spinning collision between two players in which the significant majority of the contact from Nash landed not on Kopecky’s head, but the back of his shoulders.

“We don’t see this as being principal point of contact to the head. For a fact, we don’t see much contact to the head at all,” said Shanahan.

“On the Florida feed, when you slow it down, you see Kopecky’s back right shoulder is the initial point of contact. If you slow it down even further, you see the back right shoulder and the nameplate aren’t just the initial point of contact, but the principal point of contact.”

Controversy raged over the hit because the aesthetics were damning for Nash. He left his skates to deliver a high check, and Kopecky’s helmet came crashing to the ice after it.

On the latter point, Shanahan said it was a “whiplash effect” that caused Kopecky’s head to snap and helmet to fall. As for Nash jumping into the hit, Shanahan said far too much attention is paid to that aspect of many checks.
Quote:
While they weren’t primary factors in the decision, Shanahan said that Nash’s clean record for supplemental discipline and the fact that Kopecky wasn’t injured “reinforced” the League’s decision that this wasn’t a suspendable offense.

It wasn’t a hit the League felt should have been delivered, and told Nash as much. But the NHL felt there wasn’t enough contact with the head to warrant a suspension nor did it rise to the level of “predatory” hits that only make some contact with the head.

LOL at Shanaban's "explanation."

What absolute bull****. Anything to justify not suspending a superstar player.

This part especially made me laugh:

Well, it sure looks like you've been giving it plenty of attention since you've had no problem suspending guys for leaving their feet even an inch.

The fact that this doesn't even get a hearing is a joke.
